6 oxketball Summing up basketball season, we find a thrilling but not too successful season All through the season Lake O' was flashy led by the speed and prowess of Captain Kelly Our team showed lots of ability at handling themselves Portland came here as our first opponent Lake O' had plenty of speed, but they couldn't penetrate the opponent's defense They fought valiantly to the final period but lost by the score of 29 to 42 The following Tuesday we went to Caledonia to fam an undefeated team Playing hard our team ended the final period in a tie, but Cal edonia won in the overtime by the score of 17 to 25 We journeyed to Delton next The game was fast, and Delton walloped us 21 to 57 Heartbroken the team traveled to Middleville They led ten to one in the first quarter, then Middleville wrested the game from us 25 to 54 The game of the year was with Woodland we beat them 50 to 27 which made all of us very happy Middleville came up again on our floor The game was close but Mlddlevllle defeated us once again by the score of 26 to 52 Next Nash ville came here and they beat us badly by the score of 17 to 44 Belding came over and we beat them 28 to 22 which was very unexpected Traveling to Sunfield, we really received a defeat that was a staggering blow The score was 26 to 21 Delton came over and handed us another walloping blow with the score 29 to 51 The team slowly recovered before traveling to Portland The team played hard but they lacked players and they were again defeated 25 to 45 We went to Nashville and were outscored once more by 22 to 44 Ionia was next handing us a trim ming 55 to 21 In the League Tournament we played Delton and we were beaten again 57 to 21 Playing Woodland next, Lake O' recovered in the last half to win by a score of 56 to 55 Our second team did better, winning five games and losing eight Back Row Milo Sutherland Mgr , Claude Wlerenga Center, Harlan Middaugh Forward, Bob Allarding Guard, Dick Pearson Center, Bob Reed Guard, Bob Lane Forward Front Row Coach Kay, Doc Kaufman Forward, Dean Kelly Guard, Don Cook Forward, Lyle Bartlett Guard o l o Q u ' , 0 . .. o o Q- i' ' 0 . M Lake O started her practice sessions late and they weren't completely in shape for the game against Caledonia, which we lost 14 6 Caledonia had some good players, but touchdowns were made without the benefit of a first down They failed on both extra points but collected a pair on a safety We d1dn't lose faith however, for the following week we beat Bellevue 6 O in spite of the rain throughout the game We took on Middleville the following week and were beaten 6 O It was a close game all the way through, but in the third quarter they pushed across a tally after a 73 yard drive Our next game, the highlight of the season, was un der the lights at Ionia We lost to them by a 51 O score Ionia's powerful team was just too much We cou1dn't stop them The following week we won our second game of the sea son as we overpowered Nashville 6 O Next came powerful Belding Although the boy's looked good and fought back with all their fury, we were beaten 21 6 The last game of the year was played on the local field lt was a perfect day, but Lake O' just couldn't click and bowed to Portland 15 6 Now for a look at the line up Dick Pearson Left End Don McKinley Dean Kelly Dick Goodemoot Bruce Hershiser Lyle Bartlett Bob Lambert Don Cook Quarterback Left Half Left Tackle Left Guard Center Right Guard Right Tackle Right End Gerald Chorley Bob Lane Right Half Clare Blakely Fullback The team was bolstered by Carlton Sm1th,Bob Reed, Kenny Smith, Jim Henry, Nolan Roe, Dean McLeod, Bob Allarding, and Tom Courtnay.
