The sponsors for this event were the laycees of Greater Orlando, The Southern Ballet, and The Society for Creative Anachronisms of Central Florida. Students from Ms. Dessert's, Ms. Levine's, and Mr. Seller's classes attended for extra credit. Among the festivities were plays, dancing, singing, fighting with swords, cudgels and maces, and a human chess match. , Heroic Couplet To Canterbury went a witty man lf just in mind with a pen in his hand. Telling stories with a different twist Transferring thoughts to paper with his wrist. He unleashed his tales, let the truth unfold, He spoke no lies despite however bold. The characters of whom he speaks and lists Are stereotypes, but they did exist. Poking fun at those he charaterized No pun intended, but he satirized. Telling his stories in couplets and rhymes Possessed the listeners to keep beat and time. Exaggeration of a character's traits Creates an image to which one relates. Though he stereotyped using satire. He finds some quality he does admire. Stretching good virtues in diameter While using iambic pentameter. Following rules as he told each ditty, Oh! how did that man keep his sanity? Thirty-three pilgrims including the host, This man very nearly made good his boast! Each would tell two tales, on the way and back, Told twenty-four, but ninety-six he lacked. All his stories were perfectly arranged, This alone should have made his mind deranged! Thirty-three pilgrims and their stories too, No wonder he died before he was through. To keep his characters separated Was a task he underestimated. The truth to the legend how this man died Was his mind went blank when his ink well dried. Writing heroic couplet sample?
