Autumn, the peaceful falling season, is here. It is an easy time full of vibrant color, brisk winds and cool temperatures. Fall is the only interval of the year in which the days are the same length as the nights. As a result, the season is in its fullest beauty and perfection. Nature is real and tangent in all descriptions of the harvest season as everything is alive and gently stirring. The colors and cool breezes of autumn make the season a refreshing time. The sum- mer heat is replaced by a pleasant coolness which precedes the hard, icy, freezing of win- ter. Autumn is filled with trees of bright and earthy colors exemplifying the beauty of nature and God's creation. Lacking the juicy chlorophyll, the leaves are no longer soft and moldy, instead they are crisp and delicate. They delight in grace as they flutter with the falling season, getting caught by unwary twigs and branches. Some- times the foliage tumbles in masses resulting in the Saturday pleasures of children raking them into heaps and plunging on top. Crick- ets and katydids fill the evenings with music of autumn. At last, the harvest season offers a feeling of moody contentment, setting off an air of completeness, and with it, a new begin- ning. by Diana Loyd 20
