Thi terially increased the enrollment in Lake' eventh and eighth grades The faculty has gradually been increased until at the present time Lake's teaching force numbers twenty four Thirteen are teaching the upper six grades and eleven in the lower six grades The present student body en rollment, including Millbury, is 700 Along with the other advancements, Lake High has pro gressed remarkably well Recently, the board of educa tion was informed that Lake nigh school wa undualified ly approved for continued membership in the Nortt Cen tral As ociation Higr standards are required of any school before admission to this select grodp given Lake Higr has been a member o this association for ll years The tudents, along with the school, profit the membersrip because a graduate of Lake High School may enter any college or university without losing any credits or without taking ar entrance examination. XLDYS rea j 'Iij, lru- K M 1- A t f tn Y voter when ne w witl . lFlOw wfij r PO?X We began the fall of 1954 as 'freshies with an enroll ment of sixty The offlcers elected for the year were President Dale Crandall, V President James Baker, Secre tary Glendale Schulte, Treasurer Wilma Edwards The big gest event of our freshman year was undoubtedly our grad was presented as part of our commencement exercises At the beginnlng of the school year of '55 the follow ing sophomore officers were elected President Irma Isch, V President Glendale Schulte, Secretary Treasurer Dondus Berndt The sophomores won, as they had in their fresh man year, the cheering cup at the intramural games This year was a rather uneventful one for the sophomore class The Junior year always brlngs plenty of activities This year's officers were President Dale Crandall, V President Roland Volker, Secretary Dorothy Krummel, Treas urer Lucy Recker The total enrollment is forty five The flrst important event of the year was our junior class play, HEyes of Love, given November 17, under the direction of Miss Furry, our class sponsor The cast of characters included Dale Crandall, Helen Falls, Loretta Hoffman, Roland Volker, Wilma Edwards, Glendale Schulte, Mary Waggoner, George Suter, Dondus Berndt, and Lyle Kur fis The proceeds from the Farmers' Institute went to the class to help finance the Junior Senior Banquet Lake High School Emblems were also sold by members of the class to add to this fund Of course, there was much excitement in planning for the Junior Senior Banquet, which was held May 15, at the Madison Tea Room As our junior class draws to a close we are looking for ward to very eventful senior year JJXI k. FRESHMAN CLASS I-HSTORY Fifty-four Lake eighth graders and nineteen eighth graders from Olney plus a few new students composed the freshman class of l936-'57. At our first class meeting, held in September, the following officers were elected: President-Merritt Korn, Vice President-Jess Hopkins, Sec.-Tres.-Dorothy Hicks. Our first social event was a Hallowe'en party held in the gym on Oct SO In late December Mr Huntsinger, of the Crowell Pub lishing Company asked the freshmen Wanda Winegardner was our champion ten subscriptions On Jan Sth, a who sold at least one subscription to become salesmen saleswoman She sold grand party for those was held in the gym Twenty two pupils were present In early February the freshman pins arrived Later in the month a meeting was held to decide our colors and cheer leaders for the intramural tournament Our colors are green and silver, Marie Beckman and Dorothy Hicks are our cheer leaders We're very proud of the fact that we won the cup for decoration and cheering Ray! W he l,.. 1 .lx..r'x.:.Ix. .V JLJI This year's track team consisted almost entirely of freshmen, since there were only three men left from last year The following boys were on the team Norval Kopp, Jesse Hopkins, Ross Isel, Roscoe Sampsell, Albert Shear er, Arlo Johnson, Fred Nietz, Jesse Sundermeier, Robert Schober, and Carmen DeStazio Our team held several practice meets before the county meet We were defeated by Genoa and Perrysburg, but tied with Maumee May 7th and 8th the second annual Wood County Track Meet was held at Tontogany Here we received third place ranked first with thirty five and one half points and Wayne came out a close second with thirty five The following places were taken by our boys in the pre limenaries first in their heats by DeStaz1o in the lOO, Shearer in the 44O,and the relay team consisting of Kopp, Isel, Shearer,and DeStazio, seconds by Nietz,and Isel in the 880, Nietz in the mile, and Sundermeier in the shot put, third by Shearer in the javelin, and Kopp qualified for the pole vault In the finals, firsts were taken by Shearer in the 440 and the half mile relay team Isel and Nietz came in second and third in the 880 and DeStaz1o, fourth in the lOO A third place was taken by Sundermeier in the shot put Ties for third place were made by Shearer in the Javelin throw and Kopp in the pole vault Our track team this year was a better balanced one than most of our former teams If these fellows continue to practlce and additional ones come out next year, there's no reason why we, too, can't have a champion track team in the near future 'rw fwf 'Fw On in the county with our twenty-nine points.
