Jerry O'Rei1ly straight arms a Waukegan defensive halfback while picking up 23 yards in a Junior Varsity game. Lake Forest won 13-9. Underclassman Uproars J-V Football Coach Arthur Serfling's hopeful Junior Varsity opened the 1952-53 foot- ball campaign with a scoreless tie against Warren. They played five games and enjoyed a season with two victories, two losses and one tie. Their second game was a hard 16-0 loss to Zion-Benton. The following week found them trouncing Waukegan 14-2. Barrington swallowed them in their fourth game, 36-6. Avenging an earlier loss, the J-V's pounded out a 19-6 victory over Zion to end the season. Coach Serfling presented Junior Varsity awards to the following boys: Laurence Anderson, Tom Bigford, Dave Burns, Barry Fitzgerald, LeRoy Hoch- halter, Don Jensen, Jack Kempher, Fran- cis McGowan, Jackson McNutt, Tom Olson, Bob Perce, Byron Prais, Chris Reardon, Wayne Robertson, Larry Smith, George Vandervoort and Dave Yore. J-V Basketball With Coach Larry Callan at the reins, the Junior Varsity compiled a record of six wins and twelve losses. Receiving Junior Varsity letters were juniors Frank Becker, Claude Gunnerson, Dick Trost and Don Volpe. Sophomores were Don Jensen, Byron Prais, Bob Perce, Don Watson, Jack Smith and Francis McGow- an. Frank Becker led J-V scoring with 157 points for the season. Following close behind was Dick Trost with 139 points. An injury sidelined Don Volpe after a third of the schedule had been completed. The Scouts won decisive victories over Grayslake, Libertyville, Ela-Ve rnon and McHenry, while whipping Woodstock twice. The final North Suburban Con- ference standings placed Lake Forest in sixth place.
