Headline Hunters Young Idea Short stories . . . Poems . . . Es- says! All were included in the 1953 Young Idea, the annual book of creative writing done by LFHS students. Editor-in-chief B. J. Akeson headed the staff of 17 with assistant Rayanne Walter. Separate sections were judged by Ann Ekern, essays: Barbara Wilson, short stories: Anne Gieser, poetry: Judy Corbett and Caryl Sue Nelson, production. The staff, chosen by advisor Miss Ann Lawrence, included: Sue Sanderson, Barbara Beckwith, Sybil Watson, Mary Janet Meler, Freya Peterson, Lee An- derson, Sheila Quinlan, Shirley Todd, Don Smith, Phyllis Young, Tom Bigford and Erlene Joesel. Postscript '53 For the second time in the history of LFHS, students published a hard cover yearbook. Most of the pictures were taken by chief photographer John Chris- tie. Reporters included Walter Schwartz, Ben Froelich, Jerry Mosey, Leslie Jones, Janet McQueen, Dwayne Reh, Sue Nisbet, Caryl Sue Nelson, Shirley Todd, Mary June Efinger,Anne Gieser,Barbara Joan Akeson, Camille Mendino, Lyn Nagel, Phyllis Young and Erlene Joesel. The business staff, chosen by faculty advisor Dr. Frank Townsend, included Karla Spiel, Mike O'Reilly, Joan Gall- agher, Mary Jane Strachan, Ruth Nagel and Harrison Steans. Editorial advisor was Miss Lola Jacobsen.

The Uni- versity of Illinois housed the ISHPA con- vention, and the Conrad-Hilton hotel in Chicago was the scene of the NSPA con- vention. Staff members attended a Chicago Press Guild workshop at Evanston on February 28. In March a group of editors watched the Evanstonian, Evanston High Schoo1's newspaper, go to press.
