College Hall, a landmark since 1878, is now no exception. Rededicated this fall as Young Hall, the building has recently undergone a large scale face lift in prepara- tion for the academic years to come. The pride that LFC feels for its new building is similar to the pride that was apparent in the college's early years . . . As a tribute to LFC's heritage, we look back at the early years and see how much, or how little, we have changed . . . Like our older buildings which have become more venerable with age, some of our long- standing faculty members have matured with grace and style. On the other hand, recent addi- tions in both categories have blended in admir- ably, effectively bridging the gap between old and new. 7 Y :. ,. E 3 my fi ' at 'A U as 4 0 x i J g T' Q .. Q 4 . If nobody comes, then nobody comes. I've done nobody any harm, nobody's done me any harm. but nobody will help me. A pack of nobodies. Yet that isn't all true. Only, that nobody helps me - a pack of nobodies would be rather fine, on the other hand. I'd love to go on an excursion - why not? - with a pack of nobodies. Into the moun- tains, of course, where else? How these nobodiesjostle each other, all these lifted arms linked together, these numberless feet treading so close! Of course they are all in dress suits. We go so gaily, the wind blows through us and the gaps in our company. Our throats swell and are free in the mountains! R Cv.11l 5llt'l'IIl 111 I'l1-1111g1.11l I I11 Well, this is it. Finished. Done. Completed. The 1983 FORESTER. put forth bv the undaunted faith. the unwavering enthusiasm. the unspeakable agonies. and the unmatched pride of an unpretentious staff. There were many ofthe familiar problems faced bv this vear's staff- the shortage of monev. too little time, and personalitv conflicts. Particularly straining was the decision on red. or black for the cover, but as vou can see. eventuallv this too was resolved. In the ever-difficult Search for some sort oftheme. we thought it might be interesting to show the gradual changes the college has endured over its lifetime in relation to some of the rapid and profound changes which have occurred since this vear's graduating class were freshmen. Some of the most obvious changes have been the renovations of Durand Institute. College Hall. and Commonplace providing upgraded facilities. increased classroom space. an elevator to get to the 5th floor tbut then who wants to show up for a lecture on time anvwav?J. and a modern student center with expanded plaving facilities and new mail boxes that still don't work. The radio station has gone to 300 watts as well as to the basement of Commons. also the new location of the STENTOR. The administration buckled to the undeniable pressures of the new age with the controversial addition of the business major and the continual tangling of computer lines about campus. Then there were the little things like the alcohol policv . permanent trash cans. lacrosse as a bona fide interscholastic sport. a new chapel carillon. and senior furniture. YVe have also witnessed our fair share of losses. Nlanv fine facultv have left over the vears. sometimes stirring an uproar often fueled bv concerned students. The closing of the Pub was a landmark affair striking a sharp pain in the heart of manv. or mavbe it wasjust a little queasiness in the gut ofa few. And then there was the not-sc1-permanent disappearance of Szabo. replaced bv Service Svstems. vielding the return of Szabo tdefinitelv queasinessl. So what is the point ofa vearbook? For some. it attempts to capture their first vear ofcollege: the anxieties of meeting new people, finding out that thev aren't so different from vou. and liking them. For others it marks the end of another vear. which means a long-awaited rest. and it helps to separate the experiences of this vear from last vear's. or was that the vear before. For the rest it might signifv the end of vour college career. providing visual proof that vou did participate in the activities claimed on vour resume. and a record ofthe times vou spent and conflicts vou encountered with those same anxious people over the past four tsometimes five. or six . . .3 vears. Mere two-dimensional photographs and words on a page cannot hope to be a complete summation of vour college experience. Rather. this book should provide the springboard to the experiences which the imagination can rebuild at anv time. and probably improve upon. So run around and get those signatures from the people who write that undicipherable stuff. the special meaning of which will probablv be clear onlv manv v ears from now. - Cordon Perrill Young 11111f,! 57 nactcft my 9056-THE FURESTBRHSUB cf e of :if--1 T Bgi k ' 2-10 ' 1 v I Tqf 5!!RlU' 1' if x. , .f ' . ,,,:t,-3.1 Am.: , . h 1, . 1' . , A 4. .
