To the Class of 1964: It is with especial pleasure that I extend this word of greeting to you, for you and I entered Lake Forest College together. I, too, have achieved the lofty status of Senior. You, however, can now rest from your labors, having won your way to graduation. I am not smart enough to graduate! I have no regrets at remaining behind in this place to which I have grown so deeply attached. I only regret your de- parture from the campus, for yours is a class with which I feel a particular bond. We have seen much happen, you and I, since September of 1960. The Johnson Memorial Science Center, the addition to Commons, Nollen and Gregory Halls, the faculty housing on south campus, the new library now under construction, the President's House -- none of these was here when we arrived. More than half the teaching faculty have been appointed since 1960. The three-course, three-term curriculum, the new grading system, the comprehen- sive senior examinations were all innovations in our time. The student body has grown in size, in aca- demic quality, in geographical distribution, in diversity of all kinds. We have many memories - some stormy, most, I hope, happy. I shall never forget you. I hope that you will always remember Lake Forest College, and know that for you, this is always home. Faithfully yours, William Graham Cole Page 7
