LAKE FOREST CCLLEGE CORPORATE TITLE: LAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY LAKE FOREST. ILLINOIS Ojzce of the President A college year-book is a curious combination of historical record and collective senti- ment. In years to come, this volume will be lifted from many a shelf as a stimulus to the memory and as a stirrer of the affections. All of the official data is here, the senior pictures, the group photographs, the year's special events. And yet no book could possibly gather up all of the memories, all of the experiences of a college community from September 1961 to June 1962. Those are stored in over a thousand heads, filed away in billions of brain cells, some probably lost beyond recall. But the Forester will in days ahead open the filing cabinets of the memory and bring forth rich and happy recollections. There will doubtless be a fair share of the unhappy and the regretful as well, but the years do lend perspective and we hope that the long view will be pleasant and nostalgic. So though I write these words to you now as undergraduates, I know that I write them also to you across the valleys of the future. If in these college years you have developed habits of careful thought and rational analysis, if you have cultivated an aesthetic taste and have sharpened your sense of moral and religious values, if you keep these tools acquir- ed here in constant use as mature and reponsible citizens of sense and sensibility, then your stayuat Lake Forest College will have been a rich and rewarding experience and each time, tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, that you open this volume, I greet you as friend and fellow student!
