Seeing the College as it was then, per- haps you will appreciate how important you were to your College and how many significant changes you helped make or witnessed during your years here: -- the pursuit of excellence in the classroom -- the concentration on liberal arts education -- the programming forthe Hall of Science -- the achievement of leadership in the small independent college faculty salary levels and in the level of competence of the Faculty. -- the passing on of a great President in Ernest A. Johnson and the election ot a new Pre- sident, William Graham Cole. We look to you as alumni to continue with us the task of making you College, Lake Forest, a truly distinctive liberal arts college. Honnaker, D, Mathis, T. Potratz, D. Lannert. Not Shown: L. Lyson. Weekend began. . . with eemmiffee plan. . Carloads of colorful decorations, scads of spirited students, and a multitude of returning alums de- scended an Lake Forest College campus October 24 for Homecoming. A year's effort and weeks of work lay behind the gay festivities. Anxiously Ray Giles with his committee members watched over the proceed- ings to see that all went smoothly. A blazing fire and pep rally started the ball rolling Friday night. Later at Hixon Hall a queen was crowned and an enioyable sock hop climaxed the evening. The Homecoming parade included a little bit of everything from kangaroo to goat to Charley Weaver. A girls's drill team, a Scottish marching band, and the Fort Sheridan Drill Team all added music and gaiety to the procession winding from College Hall through Lake Forest to Farwell Field. Teeth chattered and toes froze while 2000 people witnessed a mighty Lake Forest team take the field and defeat Elmhurst. Open houses afterwards kept spirit running high as Homecoming began its final stages. The stage was set Saturday night at Dur- and lnstitute. Gamma Phi's and Delta Chi's cheerfully accepted the prized sweepstakes trophies. As i959 Homecoming become only a memory, weary Foresters turned with anticipation to the Homecomings of the 60' S. -44- f Ng.. Declslons . Declsnons Always Decuslonsl Team never looked so good. All Lake Forest campus waited and worried with the candidates until Friday night's crowning. Gamma Phi Beta's Linda Forsythe proved a charming queen, flanked by her gracious court: Barb, Bonnie, Wendy, Linda, and Darlene.
