Hffffmnr I'm going back to Durand and sack outf' Roll back the sands of time to Sept. 22. a day that niade the summer seem long. That first day al- ways means learning new faces. Among them this year. eight were to become our mentors-par excellence: Drs. Cowler. Coutts. Dilkey and Murphy: Nlessrs. Erickson. Mouratides and Tschappat: and Miss O'Bryant. Also offering its hand was a Hbigger than eyer freshman class that would prove well dry behind the ears as names like Wbrobec. Jacobs, l'Vay, Rhode. Rice. and Orr crowded Stentor space. But as recruits were yet orienting . already practiced hands held campus sway. Donna Lenters' team: Bunge. Cleary. and the scintillating Poopsie edited popu- lar September columns. Mischa Rader. Bob Scichili. Phipes. Tony Banks, etc. won again the big letters. Chairmen like Bill Eckert. Ed iVil- liams. Joe Petrzilka and Jerry Lake began early planning. Performances by campus clowns. Jack YVolf and jim O'Keefe, opened and rehearsal be- gan for Frank Kayanaugh and Geri Larson. XVith these and more we united on that day. befriended through the year. and shall remember always. The popular news- paper is puhlished 30 tinies a year and is coni- pleting its 70th year ol publication. During the 1955-50 Stentor year. there were two edi- torial stalls: the tirst SC'II'lCSIL'I'iS editors were Donna l,enters, Editor-in-chief. Lois Schulmert. news-editor. iXIarQaret Neely. city editor and Enunet Cleary. sports-editor, During the second seinester. Donna l,enters. l,ois Schu- lvert. and Ennnet Cleary were the three co- editors and tlane Reestnan edited the news page. Alohn Briddlc edited the sports page and Margaret Neely was again the citx'-editor. For hoth seniesters, Roger xvllll1'llll took charge o the p:1per's circulation. which extends not only to students and faculty hut to 1illlI'IlI'll and liuture students as well. Thotn Hine. as l1usi- ness inanaqer lor the season. handled the ad- vertising and other lmusiness functions of the paper. Dr. Gordon Milne. the faculty ad- visor. was consulted oliten on tnatters ol' policy and kjournalistn. 'lihree regular contriliutors to the Stentor were .-Xlan Solomon. Hill Runge. and Frank 1-1 l. Hahn. .-Xlan wrote reviews on all the Carrick plays. cttrrent movies and even wrote on the success ol' a party in the spring. Bill Bunqek editorial features were quite popular and con- sistently provoked letters to the editor, ln the Sportlightn. featuring various athletes. was a weekly donation hy Frank Hahn, hlany lvlonday and XN'ednesday niqhts were spent on asseinlalinuj the Stentor for its Friday afternoon clistrihution. Lights hurned late and typewriters clacked noisily in the husy otlice i11 the haseinent of the Institute. On Wieclnes- days. the paper was pasted 11p and proofread. The headlines were written and the whole hundle was transported to the printer o11 Thursday. Because the Stentor is the newspaper oi' the student hody. it has heen the hope ol' the editors that it should he used to voice the opinion and the ideas ol all the students. On occasion. a controversial issue was presented. and the fun Imeqan. hut unless all elements and sides are heard. the paper's responsihility is not fulfilled, This is llp to the students . . . all ol them . . . to inake the Stentor. the Voice ol' the Stu- dents at LFC.
