lt's 2:30 p,rri., Saturday afternoon, Farwell Field, and warm weather . . . the first strains of the National Anthem can be heard 4 4 . on the field one can read the numerals on the backs of bright red and white uniforms . . . the teams and the crowds face the American flag . . . seconds later the l953 football season is officially begun by the initial kick-off high into the air. That kick-off, more than the first class, officially opened the school year for most of us, Behind us in the crowd was the new press box . . . you could hear the announcer breathing into the mike as he expectantly awaited the referee's signal . . . the little boy beside us had mustard on his mouth and pop corn in his hand . . . a follower of the Beloit team kept yelling down in front.
