McPheeters is Dean of the College and head of the Department of English. l-le holds the Bachelor of Arts degree frcm DePauw University, the Master of Arts degree from Harvard University, the Bachelor of Systematic Theology and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Boston University. Dean McPheeters, whose name appears in Whos Who in Amerira, was a Chaplain, with the ranl: of First Lieutenant, overseas during the Vviorld VVar. After the War he was sent by the American Expeditionary Force in France to Cambridge University, England, for advanced study. On his return to the United States he became Professor of English at Lawrence College, where he remained until coming to Lalze Forest College in nineteen-hundred and twenty-nine. Professor McPheeters is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English. the American Association of University Professors. and Phi Beta Kappa, l-le is the author of Outline Guide for a Study of English Literature, Literary Terms and contributed a biography of Ftufus King to the Dictionary of American Biography. AGNES HOSE KOUPAL Miss Agnes Fl. Koupal is Dean cf 'Women and Assistant Professor of English. Miss Koupal received the Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of illinois, and the Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in a course for advisors of women. Miss Hcupal was Dean of Vlfomen at Monmouth College kefore ccrning to Lake Forest College in nineteen-hundred and twenty-seven. FLETCHER BARKER COFFIN Doctor Fletcher E. Cofiin is head cf the Department cf Chemistry, He holds the following degrees from Harvard University: Ea:hel:-r cf Arts, Master of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, and Doctor of Philosophy. I-le came to Lake Forest College in nineteen-hundred and nine from T-laverford College, Previous to this he had been associated with a Boston law firm, and with the utility management and construction firm of Stone arid Webster. Doctor Coffin did his research work in the field cf atomic weights, making determinations of the atomic Weights of Colcalt and Arsenic.
