BETA BETA BETA The Lambda Phi chapter of Beta Beta Beta, an honorary fraternity for students of the biological sciences, was organized at Lake Forest College toward the end of the second semester last year. By reserving its membership for those who attain high scholastic records in biology, it encourages scholarly attainment in this field of learning. lt cooperates with other societies of natural science in extending biological knowledge and in encouraging new discoveries, Beta Beta Beta emphasizes a three-fold program: stimulation of sound scholarship, dissemi- nation of scientific knowledge, and the pro- motion of biological research. The require- 191 ments for membership are the completion of sixteen semester hours in Biology, either junior, senior, or graduate student ranking, and scholarship superior to the average of the whole student body. The charter mem- bers of the organization are Dean Wray, Bodger Smith, Bobert Smith, Ruth Bolt, Stephen Gray, and Dr. Bruce Lineburg. Carroll College sponsored the installation of the local chapter on Tune 4, 1935, through the efforts of Buth Bolt. The officers of Tri- Beta are: president, Ruth Boltg secretary, Stephen Crrayp treasurer and counselor, Dr. Bruce Lineburg. The meetings, which are held twice a month, are open to all students interested in biology.

ECONOMICS CLUB The Economics Club, one of the most progressive and modern organizations at Lake Forest College, was founded in l934. The purpose of the club is to exchange ideas and analyze the present day economic problems of the business world in an atmosphere different from that of the class room. Meetings are held about once every three weeks. The forum type of program, in which both sides of a question are presented by members of the club followed by an open discussion, is used. The club has been fortunate in securing two outside speakers every semester to come and talk to them. The requirements for membership are a major in economics or business admin- istration and a certain standard of scholarship. Dr. Iohnson, Mr. Keller, and Mr. Logan are honorary members. Lower Hou' Heva liamper, Miss Lennards, lvlr, Davey, Eleanor Thompson, PI-II SIGMA IOTA Phi Sigma lota is an honor society for distinctly advanced students in French and Spanish. lt is one of the oldest honor Fraternities on campus. The programs of Phi Sigma lota consist of the leisurely treatment of literary works in that field. For l935-35, the subiects have been drawn from the social drama of the nineteenth century in French and Spanish. Augier, Brieux, and Dumas-tils have been the authors studied this year. Miss Lillian Lennards represented the local chapter at the biennial national convention held in Bloomington, Illinois, from November l5 to the l6. At this meeting tm Phi Sigma lota merged with Alpha Zeta Pi, another language fraternity which had elev- en chapters in western universities. Phi Sigma lota is open to juniors and seniors who have maintained a superior scholastic average in the field of Romance Languages. There are now seven student members in the organization and the four instructors in languages are also members. The officers for this vear are: president, Dr. F. C. L. van Steendereny vice-president, Heva Kampery treasurer, Miss Lillian Lennards: secretary, Eleanor Thompson: historian, Ianice Long- brake.
