Pl-II ETA SIGMA Phi Eta Sigma is a national honorary fra- ternity for freshman men which was organ- ized at the University of lllinois by Thomas Arkle Clark. There are now thirty chapters of Phi Eta Sigma in the United States, and Lake Forest was the eleventh chapter in- stalled. lt was mainly through the earnest efforts of President Moore and his personal friendship with Dean Goodnight at the Uni- versity of Wisconsin that the local charter was secured in l929. Lake Forest is one of the smallest schools with an authorized charter of Phi Eta Sigma. Dr. H. M. Moore, Dr. R. B. Nifilliams, and Dr. E. A. lohnson are flbl honorary members of the fraternity. The requirement for membership is a 2.5 scholas- tic average for the first semester of the fresh- man year. Members are also accepted who succeed in acquiring that average for both semesters. Edward lenner and Probert Lewis fulfilled the requirement for membership the first semester of this year and were initiated on February 25, l936, in the Henry C. Dur- and Auditorium. The officers for the year were Keith Cady, president, Alfred Kuerst, vice-president: William Wright, secretary: Dale Smith, treasurer, and Myron Perry, historian.

KAPPA ALPHA Kappa Alpha is a local honorary society which elects to membership women who are outstanding in scholarship, student activities, and co-operative spirit. To be elected to membership at the end ot the sophomore year, a girl must have a 2. scholastic aver- age and be a member ot one major and two minor activities. At the end ot the junior year, she must have maintained the same scholarship and increased her activities to two majors and three minors in order to be admitted. Membership in the senior year requires three majors and tour minors. Kappa Alpha awards an engraved cup to 151 the treshman girl with the highest scholastic average tor the first semester. This society strives to inspire in the women of Lake Forest College high ideals ot loyalty and self-improvement. lt aims to further scholastic achievements and an active interest in the worlc ot the college. Heva Kamper is presi- dent of the organization and lane Clark is the secretarystreasurer. Membership in Kappa Alpha is unlimited. The major ac- tivities consist ot all honorary fraternities and membership on the statt ot the school publications. All other activities on campus are classified as minor ones.

The local chapter was established at Lake Forest in February, l934. The requirement tor membership is a 2.5 scholastic averaae tor the first semester. The purpose of .Alpha Lambda Delta is to encourage hiqh scholarship and to sponsor a hiah standard of learnina. Mrs. Herbert McComb Moore was initiated into the society as an honorary member in February, l935. Miss Aqnes Ft. Koupal has been advisor ot the qroup since its installation here.
