Three Qutstending Events in 1935-36 At the Annual Christmas dinner, held on Thursday, December l2, in the Calvin Durand Commons, Calvin Durand Trow- bridge, lr., presented to the college an oil painting of Calvin Durand. Mr. Durand was the donor of the Commons in which the ceremony took place and which is named for him. The painting was presented by the family of Calvin Durand, and it is now hanging on the west wall of the building which was the result of his generosity. On Cctober 22, l935, President l-l. M. Moore announced to all parts of the world the Bross Prize Competition which will award, at its culmination in l94O, fifteen thousand dollars for the best literary work showing the connection, relation and mutual bearing of any of the humanities or sciences with or on the Christian religion. This Prize Competition marks the fiftieth year of the William Bross Foundation and surpasses in . VT F l l an - scope and value all of its activities. lt is open to scholars and writers of all nations, and will extend until the end of l939. The second Annual Mid-Winter Banquet of Lake Forest College was held on the eve- ning of Friday, March l3, in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom of the Edgewater Beach Hotel where there were gathered more than three hundred students, alumni, faculty, trustees, and friends of the college. Student and alumni speakers described the activi- ties of the campus by short sketches in which they pictured each activity and its leaders. Four college musical organizations-the Band, the Crchestra, the Chorus, and the newly formed Men's Glee Club-added to the entertainment. Two new prize-winning songs, A Song of Praise by Lois Wilson and Edgeley Todd and Varsity Song by Allen Long, were presented to the audience and sung by the chorus for the first public performance.
