His vicious tackling and excellent pass catching won him a starting position on the undefeated football eleven. Many times Dulitch can be found adding his friendly, informative line of chatter to the West Cottage bull session. ' . . . e , . . . , . . . . 39 if STEVEN ALEXANDER FINK Bl ck Club Sailing 3 Work Squad 3 4 Soccer 4 Gargoyle 3 Hockey 4 Spectator 4 Dance Committee 4 As a .lumor Steve Fink came to us from the frigid surroundings of Minneapolis Since then he has established himself as a figure on campus Many a formal dance has had the foremost in lighting because of the electrical genius of Mr Fink Much to the pleasure of Mr Nelson Steve lent his talents to the Spectator during his senior year and did a very commendable 'ob The sailing team had a valuable asset un Steve Although the team lacked competition his leader ship contributed greatly to the success of the ac tivity. The soccer team and the work squad round out Steve s athletic schedule. Finding that the quiet atmosphere of Durand House suited his fancy, Steve made it has abode both years. The latter year he served efficiently as a hall monitor. As Steve bids the Academy farewell, we wish hlm much success in the years to come. 40 ROBERT LUTZ FOSTER Black Club Varsity Football 4 Varsty Golf 4 lettermans Club 4 Spectator 4 Class Officer 4 Bob Foster is one of the few one year men an the Semor class which In itself ns no distinction How ever in the short time he has been here Rob has accomplished a great deal and has made many lasting friends His chief Interest seems to Ile In the great North Woods An adventurer and a story teller at heart Rob never tires of telllng tales of his escapades in Northern Minnesota and Canada His strength and athletic prowess were first dem onstrated on the football field Not only did he lend his ability to the undefeated team but also his spmt and drive boosted the moral of his teammates To balance his success in football he played sterling golf this spring His long drives and pm point approaches keynoted his links P aY Frosty has in the short time he has been here become one of the most popular boys in school. Graphic demonstration of this was his election to the Vice Presidency of the Senior class. Rob seems to have found no difficulty in making the transition to Academy life. He has maintained a B-C average and has attained the merit list. Although here for only one year Rob has won his place in the graduating class. First Row Johnson C Foster Trleschmann Winsor Patton Mayer Second Row Johnson B LoPrestl Hall ONelll Harre Leonard Dana Compere Third Row Coach Wetxel Coach Frlery Jeuck Hilton Campbell Mellen Taylor Anderson Pierson Bolce Bogan, Taber Fourth Row Plamondon Whitman Mosser, Templeton Eggers Herndon Davis J Erickson Williams Watson With a nucleus of nine returning lettermen Lake Forest Academy fielded the first undefeated untued football team in twenty two years Under the able leadership of Mr Friery and Mr Wetzel the Caxymen were ranked among the top sixteen teams in the state The pre season training camp opened on September 1 at Grand Rapids Minnesota Thirty five boys reported at camp to start a tough trammg schedule for the season ahead Sparked by All-Conference Captains Don Tneschmann and John Winsor the team showed terrific spirit and drive through the three week training period before the opening game The Academy opened its 54 season against North Shore Country Day walloprng them 33 to 7 Superb line play by Nesblt Winsor and Bell Johnson and fine running by All Conference Halfback Tom Compere and Chuck Johnson enabled the team to come up with an easy victory clash with an ever rugged Cranbrook eleven The game was played In near one hundred degree heat but the team showed no lack of spirit or drive and went on to wm 20 to 0 Compere scored early in the first period and was followed by Hilton late in the second The second half showed both teams beginning to ture due to the Intense heat and the game ended with Gene Eggers scoring on a sneak play In the season s third game he Caxymen traveled to Watertown Wisconsin where they trounced Northwestern Preps 34 to 14 Sterling line play was shown by Patton Trieschmann and Mayer while Hall and Davis led the backfleld attack The following Saturday the Academy encountered Racine Lutheran at Lake Forest Both teams were unbeaten When the Caxymen unleashed their power nn one of the best games of the season Racine succumbed to the onslaught 27 to 0 Dana and Winsor sparked the line play making tackle after tackle The next Saturday was Homecoming and the Caxymen showed Milwaukee Lutheran no mercy as they trounced them 28-0 Davis Foster and Nesblt stood out in the line play open ng holes and tackling hard all afternoon Roger Mayer had a pertect kicking afternoon with four out of four extra points Howard Hilton sparked the drive in the backfneld and won the Most Valuable Player Trophy for the game A week later the team lcurneyed to Beaver Dam Wisconsin to play a determmed Wayland eleven This was decidedly the toughest and closest game of the season as the Caxymen fought harder than In any other game of the season for a I4-T3 victory Tom Compere scored early in the second period and at the end of the half the Academy led by seven points ln the second half however it was an entirely different story as the Caxymen were penal ized time after time for off sides Wayland scored in the third quarter to he the game Howie Hilton ran forty yards early in the fourth period to agam put us on the winning end of the play Wayland threatened repeatedly and rn the last minutes of play scored on a desperation pass The day was saved by the determmed L F A line which tore a hole through Waylancls center The next week end was a breather as L F A took the field agatnst an oft-beaten and mlured M U S Mayer Winsor and Dana did well in the line while Chuck Johnson did a superb lob returning punts The reserves took over early and made an impressive showing In the last game of the season the Academy clashed with its arch rival Milwaukee Country Day School L F A had not beaten M C D on the gridiron in seventeen years of competition On the third play of the game M C D Wont all the way to make at 6-O The Caxymen came right back several plays later to tie the game up at sux all In the second half it was all Lake Forest as Tom Compere scored on a dazzling 60-yard run As the game drew to a close AllConference Fullback Hilton scored and Mayers kick was good leaving the score 20-13 Bull Johnson Dana and Mayer led the offenive struggle while All'Conference Guards Winsor and Trneschrnann accounted for much of the defensive work The causes of this teams marvelous record were in evidence throughout the season Herd work strict turning co operation unselfrshness and an overpower-ng desire to wm gave to this team a reputation that will long be remembered and of which the school is lustly proud The following Saturday, the footballers iourneyed to Detroit, Michigan, to Ind lll0W0d Rob FOSYGY to blorlf what might have been a fatal kick. 69 ,M llll Pllfon hd MOSS!! We are in a conference that is baseball- minded and there are no soft spots at the moment. The experience that these underclassmen obtained is necessary as a prelude to a more successful season. Offensively our hitting was confined largely to what might be called the top of the order. When they had an off day we were in for trouble. Defensively we made glaring errors at the most vital stages-when the pressure was greatest. Duck Pierson and Dick Watson pitched good ball most of the time and they deserved more victories lt was the first season of pitching for both and we feel that they learned a great deal Tom l.oPresti did a grand 'ob catching occasionally playing first or covering the outfield Gene Eggers had an excellent season compared to his first year Dave VanMetre handled left field very capably. Others playing their first year at the Varsity level were Greg Lain George Kangas Leftie Hayes Ken Clague Jim Curtis Roger ONeill Mike Leonard Art Erickson and Craig Miller. All obtained valuable ex- perience and all are sophomores or iuniors. This group and others who saw limited service will be back next spring and we hope that the experience of this year will pay off. Probably the most important improvement has been the instigation of bi-weekly meetings of the entire council. Every other meeting Mr. Corbin ioins the council and school matters are dis- cussed. These meetings have made the Student Coun- cil more active and have given them a closer unifica- tion with both the Administration and Faculty through Mr. Corbin. Here at L.F.A. the Student Council not only repre- sents the boys but also the school. The council is elected to look after the rights and wishes of the boys and to improve and enforce the school rules. lt is a necessity that the council lives up to the rules of the school as a living example to the student body. lt is here that this year's council has excelled. They have as a group and individually tried, with an unusual degree of success, to lead their fellow students in the right direction. The council has this year been led by one of the ablest leaders in its long history, John Winsor. His officers are Don Trieschmann, Vice President, Jim Clow, Secretary, and Tom Compere, Treasurer. Chuck Johnson is the other member of the Student Council from the Senior Class. Representing the Junior Class were Eggers and Watson. The two Sophomores were Fried and Schroeder. Gibby Zeratsky was the Fresh- man representative. All these boys have contributed a great deal not only to their classmates but to the school.
