E Sass- Head Coach, Richard Smithp Coach Jerry Page, Coach Lloyd Taliaferro, Coach Ron Murphy. Falcon Foofball The Falcons began the '77 season confident of having a good year. No one was concerned about being considered underdogs in the toughest 2A district in the state. Lake Dallas finished the first 4 games with a perfect 4-O record. Then came Bowie C16th rankeclj favored over LD by 22 pts. Half-time was 13-O, Lake Dallas. Several fumbles and mistakes in the 3rd quarter allowed a good football team like Bowie to come back 13-21, with a score ess 4th quarter for the Falcons. The next tough game was Jacksboro, the 411 ranked team in 2A football in Texas. The Falcons, picked to lose by 26 pts., were psyched-up as they could be with high hopes for a win over Jacksboro. The Falcons won the tie 7-7 on more penetrations 2-1. This highlighted the season having the opportunity to play the 411 ranked team in the state and being the only team to upset a Jacksboro would-be perfect season of 9-O-1. They may have had the better personnel, but we had the better heart forfootballf' - Coach Smith. Later in the season, Lake Dallas suffered a loss to Bridgeport. Next, in playing Decatur, LD led the Eagles 14-6 at half-time. Toward the end of the game, 6th ranked Decatur wore LD down destroying Falcon chances for a district title. Restoring the Falcon pride involved beating Northwest for the 1 st time in Lake Dallas history for their Homecoming, finishing the season with a fine proud, 6-3-1 record. 17
