The 1974 football season was only marred by three defeats. The first came from Bridgeport by a margin of one point. The second came by two points at the hands of Northwest on a muddy, sloppy field. The third loss of the season came against Aledo. Aledo came into the game ranked No. 1 in the State and was favored by 14 pts. This game was for the championship of the district, and most likely the state. Aledo scored first from sixty yards out on a perfectly executed end sweep. At half time Aledo held a 13-0 lead. Lake Dallas came roaring back in the second half and acquired a 15-13 lead. It seemed that Lake Dallas had the game won when we recovered an Aledo fumble with 5:00 minutes left in the game. But, on the very next play we fumbled , Aledo recovered and they scored to go ahead 19-15. Lake Dallas fought back and was only 13 yards away from the goal line, and a state championship, when the game ended. Lake Dallas manhandled its remaining opponents and so did Aledo. Throughout the state play-offs, Aledo was never again tested. This season will always be remembered around Lake Dallas as the one that almost brought our first state championship. falcon coaches ...I FIRST ROW, L. to R.: Jim Watson, Ed.
