Bookkeeping always was a class where one had to study. The only trouble was, no one ever did. It looks like the steno II class is trying to transcribe another one of Mr. M1dthun'e letters. Kermit never could figure out those Problems in physics class. These boys always did like to droodle. Now we know that they must have learned it ln shop. Z0 SN ,Af .--H 1' A fisixlx ms. fi? ,. IM: J. The band marched at home football games and also went to the Madelia game to march at the half time. They marched at Mapleton's homecoming parade and also took part in Mankato State's homecoming activities. The members of the band willingly furnished all music for basketball games and pep feats. At Christmas time the band with the vocal department presented a musical concert, and in April they gave their annual spring concert. The band also participated in the Middle 8 music fes- tival at Sherburn. During the year, Hr. Harry Nelsen, student teacher from Mankato State, assisted Mr. Herman in directing the band. 51 First Row! D. Herman, K. Lloyd, B. Ebbesen, C. Madson, D. Peterson, S. Herman, D. It consists of the choir, the glee club, the madrigal group, and the various small vocal groups. At Christmas the vocal department under the direction of Mrs. Crane presented a very successful con- cert. They also had a big part in the annual Spring Concert and in the District VIII Festival of Muslc held at Sherburn. Every year the choir is growing and this year it is the largest ever. There are 70 members ln the choir consisting of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. They are limited to two practices a weekg but even with that little time, they do a wonderful job of singing. The madrlgal group was newly formed this Year. They have been a very popular SENIOR TRIPLE TRIO Sharon Walters Audrey Rogers Judy Kollmann Garnann Prince Frances Peterson Sandra Larson Sharon Maurer Mary Pritchard Judie Valine group around the community, singing at various church and school affairs present- ing an informal program of music. The group consists of 16 members. The small vocal groups remain as ac- tive as ever. There are two groups from each of the upper classes. These groups are always eager to sing even if it means extra practice during the noon hour or after school. The girls' glee club must not be for- gotten. They too are a wonderful group of singers from the junior and senior classes. No vocal concert would be complete without this group taking part. All in all, we must congratulate Mrs. Crane on the fine vocal department that we have at LCHS, and also the students who are gaining an invaluable experience in music for years to come. Nine girls worked for this new degree this year. These degrees were checked by the De- grees Committee which consisted of the girls who had received their State Homemaker Degrees last year. As a reward for their advanced work, each of the girls receiving their Ad- vanced Homemakerbegree received an FHA braclet ii.-....,.,, Y -1- and ten dollars to be used either for FHA Camp or for the State Meeting which was held in Minneapolis in March. Only four girls could attend this meeting. Another big project this year, was the sponsoring of Sandra Marben as District Vice- Presldent. She was elected last October at the District Meeting whichwasheld at Madella. Among her other duties, she represents our dis- trict at the many State Meetings and at FHA Camp this summer. The girls are all looking forward to next fall when the District Meeting will be held here. This year the girls sponsored a school dance called the NBig Beat.n All the proceeds wentto the March of Dimes. The other projects of the FHA were similar to those of the past: Christmas glftsfor shut-ins, Daddy Date Night, Style Show, State Fair Booth, and numerous projects for the District and State Meetings. FUTURE FARMERS OE AMERICA The Future Farmers of America organ- ization ia helping a great deal in training the boys in what may be their future occupa- tion. The primary aim of the Future Farmers of America is the development of agricultural leadership. For twenty years this organ- ization has been in lake Crystal. Some of the activities of the FFA are as follows! The general livestock team obtained sixth place ln the district. This team con- sists of Dennis Laingen, Bill Lloyd, Charles Hylen, and Dennis Fredericksen. At the be- ginning of the year, thechapter built a booth to be exhibited at the state fair. The booth received a blue ribbon. The annual crop show was held February 5. This allows the boys to bring home-farm crops to be judged. Money is given as prizes for the three place ribbon winners. The chapter invested some of its money in a projecto-graph machine. This machine enables the chapter to show slide pictures of school and FFA activities to the school and also to the public. At the beginning of the year, we were honored with two practice teachers from the University of Minnesota. After six weeks of teaching us, we were very sorry to see Grant Johnson and Ron Novotny leave us. Under the leadership of the advisor, Miss Peterson, and the president, Sharon Walters, the GAA has been a very active organization in school this year. The biggest event of the year was the annual Hobo Day and Sadie Hawkins Dance in November. During the day, the students all came to school dressed as hobos, and at night they attended an informal dance held in the dining room. There were records and refreshments. Duane Knutson was crowned as Little Abner and Sandra Lange was crowned as Daisy Mae. The project for the organization this year was buying pom-poms and skirts for the senior high cheerleaders. Other activities were tournaments in volleyballl, basketball, deck tennis, and badminton. G. A.
