Lake Christian School is many peo- ple with one cause; all are important in their own duties. Everyone has their own individual favorites, but we here have the privelege of having with us someone with that EXTRA special life that means so much to us. Mr. Acker- son hasn ' t been with the school long, but it seems that he has always been around. With his own individual sense of humor, spilling (oops, spelling) abilities, and otherwise unique person- ality, he is a character we will never forget. However, the thing that makes his special is the love and concern for the young people and their lives. And so, because of this, we grate- fully dedicate RAMPART 76 to Mr. Ackerson watches as for a game. his team prepares CLARRY ACKERSON As usual, he is getting himself into mischief. The break from England was not to come easily, as this fledgling was viewed as a ser- ious threat to the tentacles of the vast and far-flung British Empire. atriots rose from every corner of the struggling country. Help came from other European countries to add to the flame of breaking the grip of England. Farmers, fish- ermen, cobblers and men from every walk of life took up their arms to defend this new- felt right to be free. As the smoke began to clear, ideas on organizing this diversity of colonies into a coalition of united states began to take shape. The form of a Constitu- tion and Bill of Rights was molded by states- men who previously were nonexistent. s the word spread in other parts of the world of this new country, with its vast do- main and resources, thousands of immigrants poured in to start a new life. With the added growth of population, new frontiers were needed. This stretching brought new con- flicts with foreign powers who previously had laid claim to parts of the interior. x s the gangling country continued to grow, internal disagreement erupted into a battle of economic and philosophical differ- ences. The battle was to leave scars which would heal only after generations had passed. Out of the wounds came a stronger fiber of freedom for the individual man. The country had survived as a unit and now its energies would be put to work in rebuilding the found- ing fathers ' ideals. : ixm he need for new frontiers continued as movement spread West. A rapid explosion of technological advances pointed the country into the fore as an industrialized nation. ll s one of the leading industrial nations, this strapping, growing giant became em- broiled in the first of the World Wars. After its success with other Allied Nations, a never- before-felt boom and prosperity was followed with the shattering bust of the Great De- pression. New leaders were sought to pull the Countrj out of its fall, while o n the horizon new storm clouds were building across the oceans. J ' s m - ,0 Vk!... ..- mM ,,. _ : £ xlL second World War was fought to pro- ? tect the cause of freedom, as the now grown giant emerged to take its place as the leader %p of the Free World. This new role has brought with it — many challenges — many successes — some failures . . . and through it all a spirit for all nations to envy — a burning passion that all men may one day be free . . . We are busy at L.C.S. whe- ther we teach, learn, cook, drive, type, or clean. Activity starts early and ends late. Every day is the same in this regard, but this is the point where the similarity ends. Other than its busyness , no two days are alike. Learning is fun (or should I say enjoyable) here at Lake Christian. That is, we enjoy what we do because it is all for one reason-God ' s service. As it reads in Colossians 3:17, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus . . . This is what Lake Christian is all about. We ' re very glad that there is such a school in the Lees- burg area where we can indeed do ALL in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. SCHOOL DAYS The Bible speaks about having the proper foundation. This is why 1 chose to send my child to Lake Christian. It offers that foundation. -A parent What is life all about? Educators must answer this question, for the answer determines the educational goals they seek to reach with their students. The Bible explains that God created man for His plea- sure. The purpose of life is to please God. (Revelation 4:12) This is ac- complished by receiving Christ, being born again, and by subsequently doing the will of God. —Roy W. Lowrie, Jr. Executive Director, NCSEA It ' s good to obtain knowledge through study, it is better to obtain both knowledge and character through study and obedience. If you ' ll work at doing the tilings you OUGHT to do, the Lord will help you NOT do the things you OUGHT NOT to do. Through variety of experiences we hope to teach the entire child-body, mind, and spirit. True appreciation for what God has done is an important aspect of learning. Proper attitudes and character in the student are also a goal of each teacher. Again, with the belief that WHATEVER is done should bring glory to our Lord, we attempt to meet the var- ious needs of the student. Let it be said of us that the spirit excels in us as it did in Daniel. Let us major on the spirit. Let us think of and find our purpose in life. Then let us purpose in our hearts that we will do nothing that will steer us from our goal and purpose in life. The only way one could properly do this is to have the spirit excel in him. Daniel 6:3 says, ' Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, be- cause an excellent spirit was in him -Dr. Jack Hyles SIGHTS AROUND Learning and teaching take place in a variety of situations and in a number of ways here at L.C.S. We wanlto be aware of the past as well as being pre- pared for the future. Physicall, men- tally, spiritually-we want to be ready for whatever God wants in our lives. Whether it be through sound Bible teaching or through athletics, charac- ter qualities are taught through exam- ple and involvement. Chapel is a time when the Word of God is preached and decisions are made in our lives. We study things and people about us as well as changes in our modern world. God ' s desire for us is to seek under- standing and knowledge. Has this been a year . . . . And so one stu- dent made this wise statement and observa- tion. From Chaucer to Pooh-and The Three Bears to Spoon River Anthology-from Bible to basketball-Springfield, Mo. to our own local opponents. This has undoubtedly been the best year we have had. God has greatly blessed us here at Lake Christian. I am sure that this year will remain in our memories for a long time. I II Classes • •• • • • Robert Fischer Larry Fitch Peter Germeroth Miles Spangler SENIORS 76 The individuals on these pages will carry with them a unique reputation as the first graduates of Lake Christian High School. Indeed, they may be a small senior class, but it was not one of inactivity. Instead, their years at Lake Christian have been ones of service, activity, dedication and excitement. They are unique in their own ways. Yet united they have a possibility for great service for our Lord Jesus Christ. As a group they may never be together again, yet it is our prayer that they may have the same goal and desire-to serve the Lord to their fullest. Wherever His service may lead them, the memories of good friends and happy years will be happy and meaningful ones. As future leaders, we hope that Lake Christian School might have had some important part in their life. Under the fine coaching of Mr. Jeff Darnofall, assisted by Mr. Ackerson and Mr. Martin, the RAMS wer the surprise of the conference by winding up with 8 wins and only 1 loss. Their strong effort and hard work accounted for their excellent showing. Lake Christian will be looking forward to another good season next year. Small, David Coward, David Germeroth, Mr. Darnofall. It was exciting to see our first game on our own lighted field. Even though se could not boast a conference cham- pionship, we can be very proud of our runner-up trophy. It all boiled down to one game- Providence. We lost that game in probably the closest and the hardest fought game of the season. Providence was limited to only 1 touchdown, their lowest total by far all year. For the first time, however, the RAMS were held scorelesss. With this last quarter score for Providence, the game ' s final whistle found the Crusaders ahead 8 to 0. 1. Kickoff time again. Ron Small gets the RAMS off after another patented RAM touch- down. 2. Almost isn ' t quite enough. Two RAMS go high for the pass, but can ' t quite get to the ball against Lakeland. RAM NETTERS CAPTURE CONFERENCE CROWN The RAMS fielded their best team in basketball this year since the sports program began . With good strength on the boards as well as a fine shooting percentage inside and out- side the RAMS captured the conference crown. This was a fine team effort on the part of all the members. However, two of our players had an outstanding year. Tim Bloom, the Junior Speedster was an asset with his scoring threat and rebounding ability. At the B.B.C. Classic, Tim was selected as a member of the All Tournament Team with the third highest total score of 63 points over a 3 game spread. Tim finalized his season with 334 total points for a 1 7.5 average per game. Bob Fischer was the leading scorer for the RAMS by pouring in 409 points this season. Bob was the 7th lead- ing scorer at the B.B.C. Classic with 41 points. Bob ' s average was 18.5 points this season giving him the highest season average. Dr. Frank Garlock, internationally known authority on music and how it affects people, conducted a Symphony of Life Seminar at Calvary Baptist Church and Lake Christian School in November. Dr. Garlock is an extension staff lec- turer for Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. According to Dr. Garlock this seminar is designed to provide Christians with an understanding of the principles of music and their application to Christian living. A sym- phony is a growing together of varied sounds and the Sym- phony of Life Seminar will bring together of varied aspects of Christian Living and show how they converge in the mu- sic of any group of people, says Mr. Garlock. He answered such thought-provoking questions as, Does the Bible have absolute standards for the music of a CHAPEL SPEAKERS Christian? Who is to say what music is good or bad? Is preference for a particular style of music just a matter of personal taste? Why do teenagers like rock? Can con- temporary music be used to communicate the Gospel? Dr. Garlock is especially well known for his lectures and has lectured extensively throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. For 13 years, Dr. Garlock served as chairman of the music theory department and the director of the brass en- sembles at Bob Jones University. He presently serves as min- ister of music at Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C. and is music director of The Wilds a Christian youth camp located near Rosman, N.C.
