Glimpses of Campus Life in 'YM'-. .4 . ,f f N As a service to the community, the LCHS Student Council. in February, was host to area schools for a safety council conclave. The Calcasieu Safety Council sponsored the meeting in order to promote safe driving and to familiarize teenagers with responsibilities of traffic regulations. Tom Shaddock, .lane Henry, Betty Reichley, .lo Ann Lawlor, Richard McCusker, and Lynn Boddie wait their turn as Mike Emmett calls out words from the NOMA spelling list. Two lists were distributed among the students through the National Organization of Office Management Association. All students except Freshmen participated in this program. On the first 100 word test, based on list one, 410 seniors, 30 juniors, and 3 sophomores made perfect scores.

In previous years LCHS students have won many honors at the science fair. Connie Magee demonstrates his anti- gravity machine which will be his entry to the 1960 science fair. Catalog Ball opens the Christmas festivities. Varied Acfivifies Spelled Fun Anne Couvillion and Don Pease admire some of the projects on the Civil War made by American history students. Shannon Bridges and Berdon Lawrence spend a clam period finding out about the professions which they hope to enter in the future. All seniors were required to make a job study. Lasting for two school weeks, the study answered many of the questions posed by students about the salary, hours, require- ments, and security of the career of their choice. Punkie Clarkson and Surly Reinauer admire the framed picture of the Kilties, the first high school drill team to appear in the Mobil Oil Calendar. The color picture appeared in the company's 1960 calendar. During the gubernatorial elec- tion, Key Club members hand- ed out cards to voters encourag- ing: others to vote. Mr. J. T.
