Swedish Sfudenf Viewed U.S. Customs between two countries differ greatly. Gun reads an illustrated book, A White Christmas in Sweden explain- ing to Mr. Reinauer and .lere about the beautiful Swedish celebrations. Before coming to America, Gun never knew about the typical teenagers' snack of hamburgers and milkshakes. This combination has become her favorite foods. A vivacious addition to the LCHS student body was radiant Gun Nlalmstrom, who spent nine months in Lake Charles getting a front-row impression of the United States from the teenager's point of view. Gun. a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, was one of approxi- mately l525 seniors participating in this year's Amer- ican Field Service foreign student program. Competi- tion for the honor of receiving an American Field Service scholarship is very keen, and the number of students who apply is much greater than the number of scholarships available. While she attended LCHS, Gun made her home with the Jules Reinauers, whose twin daughters were juniors here. Although she found many customs and ideas which were strange to her, she quickly fell into the routine of school, homework, meetings, and week- ends, generously interspersed with good times, fun, and relaxation. Gun's schedule included English Ill I American Literaturej, civics, American History, and speech. Her above-average grades reflected an outstanding ability to master subjects taught in a tongue foreign to her own. Lake Charles High has enjoyed the opportunity of being hosts to such a pleasant, outstanding girl as Gun, and sincerely hopes that she has benefited from her stay in our country. Swedish meatballs can't even compare with jambalaya, exclaims Gun as Mrs. Reinauer and Sudy give her pointers on southern Louisiana cooking.
