THE MEDICO-ON HAND , The Great Lake's Medical Department has admitted 1,727 men to its Sick List. It has performed fourteen surgical operations in its operating room. One of our most outstanding operations was performed in rough seas - an emergency appendectomy. While the ship rolled and pitched heavily, the shipis surgeon worked cautiously, with his able operating assistants, from among your ship-mates. The ship's speed was reduced - at the end of thirty-eight-minutes the surgeon logged - uAppendectomy performed - condition good upon return from surgery . The Medical Department could wipe the sweat off its brow after the job uwell done . Your Sick Bay accommodates fifty-one patients and has been filled to capacity more than once during our Magic Carpet runs. Our G.I. ship- mates could boast of the best of medical attention and care before they resumed their original status of civilian. Your Medical Department is responsible for healthful conditions aboard the Great Lake. It has inspected the food you have eaten and then has assured its preparation has been worthy of its ship-mates. As the end of our service aboard the Great Lake draws near, the Sick Bay personnel record that this service has been a privilege - that they have served a fine crew, and hope they have done it well. s cnow LINE i The Supply Department may not sound like much but it means plenty to the men who are in this particular outfit. We have cherished and held up for what it does from the very kill as We might say. Maybe we weren't so very Well organized right off, but after a few Weeks and months we finallygot together. We found the shakedown successful but kinda rough. All members of Supply Department had to be up and in there before the other divisions are even to be 'thought of. We can't forget those days as we can't forget the,men who have gone that helped us pull through those days. A few of us are going to stay While the ship gets inactivated. The rest of us will go -' but whenever We think of our service aboard the Great Lake, We express our gratitude for it as a whole. uppl
