WESTERN PACIFIC! RIM OF THE PACIFIC DEPLOYMENT 24 May e name 'USS Lake olain' honors the battle Sept. 11, 1814, in Lake lain's Plattsburg Bay, the war of 1812. Commandant Tho- MacDonough com- the United States comprising of the 26- Saratoga, three ships, and ten gun I-Ie was opposed by a J larger British under Commodore Downie, whose flag- as the 37-gun frigate OF LAKE CI-IAIVIPLAIN Treaty of Ghent, Which con- cluded the War of 1812. CG 57 is the third U.S. Navy ship to honor the name. The first was a cargo vessel serving in World War I. The second, the Essex-class air- craft carrier CCV 395, earned one battle star in the Korean superior tactics, Donoughdenied the advantage of his range guns, forcing the to retreat to Canada, ing any British to Lake Champlain the negotiations of 1 November War.
