27 Years of Service CAPTAIN FRANK J. DOBRYDNEY, USN Final sea tour WESTPAC ' 97- ' 98 aboard The Champ USS Lai e Champlain (CG 57) Captain Frank Dobrydney, a native of Milford, Connecticut and a 1966 gradu ate of Jonathan Law High School, earned his commission in May 1971 through the NROTC program at Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineer- ing. His first tour at Sea was in USS MORTON (DD948) as Gunnery Assistant during which time he made two Western Pacific Deployments and participated in Linebacker Strikes against North Vietnam and close naval gunfire support. He later served as Weapons Of- ficer in USS BENJAMIN STODDERT (DDG 22) before volunteering for the surface nuclear power program.Upon completion of training at Or- lando, Florida and Idaho Falls, Idaho, he served as Main Pro- pulsion Assistant and Electri- cal Officer in USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9) followed by a tour as Executive Officer in USS MISSISSIPPI (CGN 40). After a brief training period in USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) he then served as Engineering Of- ficer in USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). During his tour the ship scored the highest possible grade on the Opera- tional Reactor Safeguards Exam and was the recipi- ent of the Secretary of the Navy ' s Environmental Pro- tection Award. Whi le in command of USS SELLERS (DDG 11) his ship earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation and was the runner-up for the SQUADRON BATTLE EFFICIENCY AWARD after making its final Mediteranean deployment before decommissioning. Prior to reporting to his next command, he served as Chief Staff Officer for Commander, Destrovor Squadron FOUR. During his tour in JOSEF HEWES (FF 1078), the ship won the ATLANTI FLEET GOLDEN ANCHOR AWARD for best r tention and the SQUADRON BATTLE EFF CIENCY AWARD. He is the 1991 recipient ( the VADM STOCKDALE LEADERSHI AWARD for insperational leadership. His assignments ashore have been as member of the Chief of Na ; Operations Staff as tl Deputy Director, and then E rector, of the Strike ar Amphibous Warfare Divisi( i OP-74. During this time 1 was a member of the worl ing group which authored tl Navy ' s White Paper ...Fro. the Sea and assisted with tl reorganization of the OPNA Staff. He later served as tl CINCLANTFLT Liaison G ficer in the newly establishf CINC Liaison Division, Nf His most recent assignme- was as the Head of the Offio Plans and Career Manag ment Division in the Bure? of Naval Personnel. Captain Dobrydney earnet Masters Degree in Syster Analysis at Michigan Sta University as a BURK SCHOLAR and is a gradua ofthe Armed Forces Staff Col lege. Among! awards are the Legion of Merit, Combat Acti Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal with comh distinguishing device. Navy Commendati ' Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal (thr awards).
