VERJtCALREP .ENISMENT TheCHAMFS WESTPACW- ' SSTRIVIA The key to maintaining sustained combat operations in the Arabian Gulf is to keep the gas and groceries flowing to the afloat units on station. The US Navy accomplished this with a fleet of CH-46 cargo helicopters on replenishment ships, SH-60 Seahawks attached to each unit, and SH-3 Desert Ducks from shore detachments in Bahrain. A typical VERTREP included both fo ' c ' sle and flight deck crews manned with an E-5 and below working party on the midships quarterdeck striking 40-50 pallets of stores below. All of this is done under careful supervision of the Supply Officer LCDR Port, Supply Division Officers LTJG Walton and ENS Abena, and Chief Petty Officers MSC(SW) Barton and SKC(SW) Burns, who meticulously in- ventory the receipts.
