COMMAND MASTER CHIEF GMCM(SW) John P. Elliott Alter egos? Master Chief Elliott as King Neptune. Master Chief John P. Elliott is the Command Master Chief of LSS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG57). Master Chief Elliott was born in Newark. Ohio, and is a graduate of the United States Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academ , Gunter Air Force Base. Alabama. Master Chief Elliott entered the Navy in July. 1967. and after schooling for the Terrier Missile System at Great Lakes, Illinois, was assigned to LSS PIEDMONT (.AD 17) followed by an assignment lo LSS LONG BE.ACH (CGN 9) which completed a tour in ietnam. .Additionally, while attached as an instructor in Field Training Department at Weapons Training Group. Pacific, Master Chief Elliott coordinated and provided Training to the four activities which received initial operational capability of the Tomahawk Weapon System, both submarine and surface-launched nuclear variants. Other assignments include: Naval Weapon Station, Seal Beach, C. as Shop Planner for the Terrier Tarter production building; USS HORNE (CG 30), as LCPO for the Terrier Missile system: and on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, United States Pacific Fleet staff as a member of the Nuclear Weapons Assist Team (NWAT). Master Chief Elliott and his wife Mary Ann reside in Santee, California. They have two sons; Michael, who attends the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Steven, a student at Santana High School.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER The X.O. intimidates LCDR Carter. LCDR William P. Hoker Lieutenant Commander William P. Hoker is the son of Captain and Mrs. Joseph E. Hoker (ret) of Annapolis, Maryland. Following in his father ' s footsteps, Lieutenant Commander Hoker graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1979 with a Bachelors Degree of Science in International Security Affairs, thirty eight years after his father. Assignment to USS NIAGARA FALLS (AFS 3) brought him to San Francisco, with Division Officer billets in Deck, Gunnery, and Auxiliary Machinery. After detaching he spent two years at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, earning his Master of Science degree in Operations Analysis. Orders to USS SAMPLE (FF 1048) as Operations Officer resulted in a move to Hawaii, where he remained for a follow on tour as Operations Officer for Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty-Five. After leaving COMDESRON 25 Lieutenant Commander Hoker was assigned to the Command of Naval Operations Staff (OP-65) as the U.S. Navy interagency representative for Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START) in Washington, D.C. Following his tour in Washington, D.C., Lieutenant Commander Hoker headed to the Persian Gulf for an assignment in Surface Operations with Commander, Naval Central Command. He reported aboard USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) in December 1992. Lieutenant Commander Hoker ' s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star, the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star, and the Battle Efficiency E . He is married to the former Isabel M. Flores of Annapolis, Maryland. They have a son Derek, and a daughter, Lisa.

THE LKC LEGACY LIVES ON ■r CG-57 is the third U.S. Navy ship to honor the name LAKE CHAMPLAIN. The first was a cargo vessel, which served in World War I and the second, an Essex- class aircraft carrier (CV-39), earned one battle star in the Korean War. CV-39 was the recovery ship for this country ' s first manned space fiight, lifting CDR Allen Sheppard and his Mercury Spacecraft, Freedom 7, from the Atlantic Ocean. CV-39 was decommissioned in 1966. The eleventh Aegis cruiser, LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG-57) has carried on the tradition of excellence by proving time and again that she will be ready when called upon. The officers, chief petty officers and men of LAKE CHAMPLAIN continue to live up to the ship ' s motto: Ingenuity, Daring, and Discipline.
