Fire sparks Indians Due to the fire in the school gym on Jan. 18, the Indians were forced to find a new home for the remaining basket¬ ball games. Despite these problems, the Indians were able to put on a show for the homecoming crowd. A standing room only crowd packed into Kahler’s gym to watch the win over Andrean 70-62. The fire created many problems for homecoming, no pep assembly, one float, but some traditions remained the same like the election of the King and Queen. Freshman Shelly Kapelinski and Steve Mandich were chosen as Queen and King. They snatched the honors away from seniors, Monica Rydlewski and Dan Snyder, juniors Arlene Olenik and Eli Giravich, and sophomores Julie Britton and Keith Byron. Shelly Kapalinski becomes the second freshman to reign as Basketball Homecoming Queen. Steve Mandich was chosen as king. It’s hair! It ' s a wig! it’s a pom pon!
