JUNIOR RED CROSS The Lake Arthur High School enrolled 1005 in the Junior Red Cross as they had done in previous years. Some of their work consisted of the following: For Halloween they made 15M dainty nut cup trays, favors and also 52 large Halloween wall or window decorations, consisting of bats, skeletons, pumpkins and owl designs. Twenty two commercial Halloween decorations were donated. Twenty two pretty birthday cards were made and M5 commercial cards were donated. All the above articles were sent to Camp Polk for the dis- abled veterans. The Junior Red Cross made the following articles for Thanks- giving: 15i unique turkey place cards for trays, 27 large turkey cut-outs, for wall or window decoration. Six beautiful large commercial and 10 small commercial turkey cut-outs were donated. For Christmas they sent 38 lovely Christmas gifts to the children at Carville, Louisiana. They also made a large assort- ment of Christmas wall and window decorations consisting of snow men, Christmas lanterns and trees. Decoration of candy-like walking canes, stockings, balloon men, stars and pine cones. One hundred dainty heart-shaped nut and candy cups were made for Valentine's Day. A They also made one hundred Easter cards, one hundred menu covers, one hundred nut and candy cups for Easter. These were sent to the veteran's hospital in New Orleans. A beautiful afghan was made by the eighth grade pupils under the supervision of their teacher, Miss Vivian DeLaunay. The students of the Lake Arthur High School have sent alto- gether since the war started, twelve afghans to the Red Cross making the money for ten of them beside knitting them. The seventh grade holds the record of making the most, they made six. This group of eighth graders made one last year and also this year. The Junior Red Cross is sponsored in our school by Mrs. Robert Durapeau and Miss Adeline Lockwood.
