Luckily, before the whole ordeal got any messier, the teachers and the board of education announced a settlement Then the school turned green, not with envy, but with cheering MSU Spartans all the way to and through the Rose Bowl. Loyal MSU fans predicted that they would win and on January 1st, 1988, saw their predictions come true. Some school spirit was hampered by an announcement of no more money. That meant no more field trips for the second half of the year. The school board had to call an emergency millagc election on April 18, 1988 to add six more mills. The seniors created a new obstacle, called the senior trip. Memories of the problemed 1986 senior trip were still intact as the board members were hearing the itineraries of the four day trip for the 1988 senior trip to Virginia.
