AND ADMINISTRATION The first Laingsburg school sup- intendent was V.G. Lanning. Of the many since, the most remem- bered were: Mr. Keith Reed 1945 to 1960; and Mr. Howard Malitz from 1968-73. The most memor- able high school principal was Mr. Raymond 0. Nash. He direct- ed the high school from 1952 - 1963. Upon his death in 1964 a Memorial Fund for student loans was created. Other memorable principals have been Mr. Gerald Meredith, Mr. Wayne Peters, Dr. Dale Herder, Mr. William Wilson, Mr. Halsted Beatty, and Mr. Graydon Blank. PRESENT Have you wondered what your teachers do after school hours? We asked, sometimes it took some coaxing but we got an answer. Mr. Armstrong likes H.O. trains, sports, and reading. Mrs. Barnes enjoys tennis, reading,attending MSU sports and she works at her husband's hardware store. Mr. Baughman fishes in his free time. Mrs. Condon attends functions at the Wharton Center, collects colonial minatures, reads history and travels. Miss Catrona likes music of all kinds, reading, and traveling. Mrs. Herder reads books, swims, and sails. Mrs. Hodges does needlework, reads a lot, likes to watch her grandchildren, and also enjoys watching football. Miss Holiday works out, excersises, and dances. She enjoys traveling and she works at a rest- aurant. Mr. Kauffman enjoys sports, music, playing the trombone and singing. Mrs. Knapp rides horses, takes pottery classes, skis (downhill and cross country), skin dives and travels. Mr. Kolo spends his time raising, breeding, and training race horses. He skis cros6 country, plays volleyball, and baseball. Miss Miller rides horses, knits, and sews. Mr. Morley works with wook, fishes, and paints. Mr. Reed works with wood, plays and listens to music, and spends time with his family. Mrs. Robertson likes camping, reading, and doing needle work. Mr. Smith enjoys couch- ing youth sports, traveling, and reading history and politics. Mrs. Torra canoes, reads and cross country skis. PAST It is easy to remember our teachers, four years of our lives are spent with them. But what about the teachers of the past? There were teachers before 1884, between 1848 and 1857 Laingsburg has 4 certified teachers: Layton Swarthout, Lounsberry Swarthout, Caroline Phelps and Miles Burt. In the hundred years of L.H.S. there have been many more. Three of them have been noteworthy for their longevity and service They are Mr. and Mrs. Doyle: Pualine who taught for nearly 22 years and Hugh who taught for 36 years (18 in Laingsburg) Al- so Fern Acker Austin who taught for 41 years (she retired in 1972).
