“
WE, THE CLASS OF 1966, DEDICATE THIS EDITION OF THE LOOKING GLASS TO OUR PARENTS IN DEEP APPRECIATION FOR THEIR ENCOURAGEMENT AND UNDERSTANDING THROUGH THE YEARS. THEIR SUPPORT OF OUR PROJECTS, THEIR INTEREST IN OUR PROGRESS AND THEIR PATIENCE WITH OUR IDEAS HAVE BEEN INVALUABLE. SINCE WE, AS MOST YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY, TEND TO TAKE PARENTAL ASSISTANCE FOR GRANTED AS WE DO THE WONDERS OF NATURE SURROUNDING US, IT IS FITTING THAT WE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SAY, “THANK YOU MOM AND DAD.® The 1966 Annual Staff is proud to be able to make our new Alma Mater, “Red White” a permanent part of LHS heritage by including it in this edition. Mr. Gary Oberlin, music director for the school, felt that it was only fitting that LHS should have an Alma Mater and unselfishly gave his time and efforts in writing the words and music. The student body, faculty, adminis- tration, as well as alumni, will long be grateful to Mr. Oberlin. far ygjd ’J? STUDENT COUNCIL This year, in addition to their normal duties of directing Stu- dent Government, the Council elected to take on some parental duties. Through the Foster Parent Plan, they have adopted a needy Vietnamese child whom they are supporting. With the dol- lars sent this child is provided food, clothing, educational mate- rials and medical care. This program, aimed mainly at helping someone else, has made Council members more conscious of the need to improve world conditions through brotherhood. They are hopeful that this project will not be abandoned by future councils. INTRODUCING NGUYEN THI HUE Hue, as she is called by her family, is a Vietnamese girl of nine. She and her family fled North Viet Nam and now live in a refugee camp near Siagon. The home consists of one room with earthen walls and floor and a thatched roof. Hue, an avid reader, receives little formal schooling but hopes to become a teacher later. Hue speaks no English but her letters are translated by the Foster Parent Plan and forwarded. In these letters, she has con- veyed her gratitude not only for the material aid but also for the love and friendship which have been sent. HOMECOMING 1965 THE ROYAL COURT KING SHAW and QUEEN HURST, Judy McFadden, Sue Savage, Judy Hurst, Winnie Powers, Scott Matteson, Mike DeVault, Jeff Veith, Karen Hart, Judy Miller, Wanita Darling, Anita Putnam, Kathy Brink. Each year in May, the Prom is the big topic of discussion throughout the school. At this event, the Junior Class honors the graduating Seniors with a formal dance. This entails months of planning; weeks of decoration making; as well as, days of actual decorating. The day of the prom sees utter confusion and everyone wonders if everything will be finished in time. Miraculously, it all falls into place and, once again, the Prom is a hugh success. FAREWELL GRAND FINALE CLASS OF '65 The Senior Trip is a memorable part of their last year in LHS. One of the most interesting and exciting moments on this trip is meeting the Congressman from their own district and the tour of the White House which he conducts. This tour always produces awed looks from all but the “far away look in many eyes seems to say, “This will be my home some day. Pictured above, before their tour, are Congressman Charles Chamberlain, Mr. Mrs. Harvey Walters, Mr. Mrs. Paul Hodges and the following members of the Class of 1965: A. Curtis, E. Snyder, D.
