It was a rough beginning; the school was not yet completed, bur this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the students and foculty. They knew they were the founders of A DECADE OF PRIDE. But the history of LHHS begon more thon ten years ago. When Sod- diebock Volley wos owned by ran- chers, a gun-slinger nomed Poncho Daniels terrorized the area. He was eventually hung, where the elevator stonds now. Before he died, he vowed revenge ond cursed the lond. Mrs. Helmick ottributed oil the stronge oc- curences of the first year to him. Here began the legend of the ghost in the elevator Fortunately, nothing marred the Cor- nerstone Ceremony on September 00. Locol Masons dedicated the building ond government officials donated flogs flown over Sacramento ond DC. The next month, five junior girls were selected for the Autumn Court and were presented at the Autumn Donee, which christened the new gym floor. The gym, called the pit , was the sight of the first Disaster Day, where hospitol, poromedics, police, and fire deport- ments practiced disaster preporotions. Students were corried out of the body- strewn gym ond medical attention wos given to those designated as severely Injured. Winter brought about much excitement; the Football Boosters sold Christmas trees, the Ski Club skiled Sreomboot Spr- ings, Colorado, and the first formol was held at Lion Country Sofori. We hod our ov n original version; one that was en- tirely unique to our situotion. In the spr- ing of 1978 ten people were selected to represent our school. These kids work- ed all summer on developing moteriol for orientotion and building general guidelines for running the student ac- tivities efficiently. Once the foil begon, eoch closs wos able to elect two representatives, giving the A.5.D. a total of sixteen members. There were no of- ficers, yet the group worked har- moniously QS they chartered the school Laguna Hills High School constitution. It is those sixteen individuals we must thonk for the present LHH5. Things hove chonged dromoticolly since the doys of Darro ' s Pizza and Mc- Coy ' s Seafood and Hamburgers. Pon- cho Doniels no longer hounts us and the Ski Club is now defunct. Winter Formal will never ogoin cost S 1 6 and the juniors ore no longer on top of the school. Yet for oil the change Loguno Hills hos en- dured over this decode, one thing hasn ' t changed . . . the pride they felt on those first doys is the some we feel todoy.
