untor Humantttes Stress is good, stress is terrific. Mr. Stoneborger cloims this was his key motto. The Junior Honors program was guided by two tolented educators, Mr. Roger Gunderson ond Mr. John Stoneborger. AP US. History is a college prep doss that counts os college credit if the student passes the optional AP exam. The English and history dosses complimented one onother in their curriculum throughout the year. In history, events ond dotes were crammed into stressed minds, while concepts and ideas were explored. Many memorable events included dou- ble blocks, reenactments of the Solem Witch Trials and o Puritan feast. Jeff Lou commented, The nature walk that the dosses took during our study of the Transcendental Period added to our curiosity and helped us to goin a bet- ter understanding. ■ Another student, Carolyn Longfieid stated, Deoling with the abstract and the non-reolity hos opened my mind to new dimensions. Keren Stevens added, I was so afroid of the stress Id heard about with Junior Honors. I ' ophomore Humanities Sophomores pur forth maximum effort to achieve outstanding academic results. Students struggled with, ond ottempted to overcome tasks assigned by teochers, Mrs. Denise Dongert .English honors and Mr. Paul Weinberger , Europeon history. The pupils spent countless hours in the construction of vorious projects with the oid of ciossmotes ond reference moteriols from the locol library. Among the projects were speakers-corner and point- counterpoint, which were types of oral essays, research papers on such topics OS the Dork Ages, comparison papers, quarterly tests, and debates on philosophers and ethics. Hard work did not go unreworded, though. The Humonities group went on o field trip to the Newport Harbor Art Museum ond observed exomples of contemporary art. Students hod the opportunity to poss an odvonced placement test in May ond recieve college credit.
