These cheerleaders supported their determined Hawk athletes during the football, basketball, water polo, track, and wrestling seasons. They also per- formed in numerous assemblies throughout the year, and acted as prime spirit leaders during spirit week. Prior to summer camp the hardworking squad practiced from three to five hours a week to prepare for camp and the upcoming year. Practicing without an audience, they perfected their cheers and sidelines. Learning to move in unison was a difficult task, and they achieved it with precision. The cheerleaders attended a three day USA camp at UCI, in which both squads were commended with honors for their fantastic performances. The J.V. squad captured a spirit stick and superior rib- bons in every competition entered. The Freshman squad also received a spirit stick and were rewarded with all superior ribbons. A J.V. cheerleader, Cami Bullock, comments, Cheerleading was an ex- perience I'll never forget. Our squad developed many lasting friendships and created a memorable year for our school, our athletes, and us. Motivating student spirit was a goal of the cheerleaders. The 1986-87 school year was enhanced by the J.V. and Frosh squads by spreading Hawk pride on spirit days, during assemblies, and wherever the Hawk athlete was present.
