Our 1986-87 Girls' Varsity Tennis Team completed the most successful season in Hawk history. Winning their first 19 mat- ches - a school record - The Hawks captured Laguna Hills' first ever Pacific Coast League Championship, and ad- vanced to the quarterfinals of post- season C.l.F. competition, losing to No. 4 ranked Claremont 10-8. The Hawks return 6 of 9 players next year, and with some outstanding talent from our second place J.V.'s, should be ready to defend their League Championship title. The Hawk Junior Varsity Tennis Team had their best season ever, finishing 2nd in the new Pacific Coast League. The team was led by doubles M.V.P.'s, seniors, Arron Matzoll and Stacey Johnson, and singles M.V.P., freshman Sharon Oh. 209

Not Pic- tured: Steve Anthony and Dave Dabbah. 210 The Laguna Hills boys' varsity tennis team entered the new Pacific Coast League with high hopes and great expec- tations. Returning from last year's team are some highly-talented players such as juniors John Evans and Mike Goodman, and senior Todd Clarke. With new varsi- ty coach Dick Schnieder, last year's JV coach, the team is setting its goal early to jump right into the new league and cap- ture a league title. The boy's J. V. tennis team was prac- ticing hard and showed unlimited dedica- tion by practicing every morning at 6:30. The team is shooting for a successful season led by singles player Jeff Cook and by the doubles team of Yu-Jen Wang and Uly Kim. On the opposite page, Brian Anthony works on his forehand stroke, Sean Taylor is defeating his oppo- nent, Sean Taylor, Mike Goodman, and Doug Blume discussing strategies, Mike Goodman showing his perfect form, Ryan Doctorozyk smiles after winning a point, and Todd Wright in deep concentration.
