My cZf! No Problem The Math Club is an academic club which focuses on increasing the students' mathematical capabilities. Meeting each Wednesday during lunch, the club spends the hour working through various mathematical equations. The degree of difficulty of each problem varies from beginning levels of algebra to trigonometry. The thirty-four members at- tended the meeting to take advantage of the opportunity to practice math. Many of them are currently enrolled in difficult math classes, and the extra math ex- posure they receive from the club has helped them to better both their grades and their overall ability to complete math problems. Not only does the Math Club benefit student mathematical achievements, but it has proven beneficial to SAT, PSAT and ACH test takers. Many of the problems that the club members work through have appearedon the tests, and they note recognizing such problems. The club's advisor, Mr. Flogers, has successfully led the Math Club to high achievements. This year Laguna Hills, Math Club competed in state and nation-wide contests by scoring exceptionally well on math exams. They have competed against other schools in the district, state, and even country. The Math Club has helped me to do better in Math Analysis. Mr. Rogers gives us prob- lems to work out, and after we have time to complete them, he goes over the solu- tion. This helps us to learn new problems as well as review past concepts, said Kim French, one Math Club member. altq Oyflliqn French Club Have you ever seen students walking about campus with blue and white sweat- shirts saying, Les Faucons Francais on the back? If so, you have seen a French Club member. In the Constitution for the French Club, it states, The French Club will promote interest in the French language and culture by sponsoring countries, atten- ding French movies, inviting guest speakers, and having other activities that would encourage students to enhance their language skills and to increase their cultural awarness. The purpose at French Club meetings is to let students taking French further their interests in the language and to encourage other students with a desire to learn more about France to do so. L'Esprit Vivant, the French Club newsletter, premiered in December. Translated into English, the name means the spirit living. The newsletter comes out every two months containing articles, songs, and cultural facts. Advisors are Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Baker. German Club German has an interesting club with many fun activities. The main focus of the German Club is the great interest in the Germanic culture. The members especial- ly enjoy the food involved with Germany. The club is also very lucky to have Mrs. Alms as an advisor. She lived in Germany and contributes greatly to the society. They have regular meetings with German speakers and slides to help the members appreciate the culture. They took a trip to a German cafe and restaurant which was great fun. Approximately 1O'M: of the peo- ple also participate in the foreign language camp put on in the spring. The camp lasts for a weekend and is strictly German speaking. The people who have gone in the past have learned a lot and enjoyed it. To end the year the club becomes involved with the Apotheosis festival by donating cakes and tortes. In short, German has an active club with members that really enjoy themselves and have fun. If not already in the German Club it would be a good idea to join next year. Voulez-vous mangez avec moi ce soir? French Club members toast with Perrier. Joyeaux Noel, the French Club sings at the Faculty Christmas Party.
