The students learn the basics of car maintenance and repair and practice general safety inspection measures. arolyn Anderson, the only girl out of a class of twenty-four, is thankful for the op- portunity to take such a course. After taking auto this year, I learned how to handle my car by myself. I don't have to rely on others for help because when pro- blems arise, I have some knowledge of what to do. The students practice oil changes, lube jobs, prevention measures, tranmission checks, and in-class safety tests. The class takes dedication and commitment, says Alfred Crabtree. Drafting, another technical course of- fered on campus, consists of both an engineering and architectural depart- ment. Students who have accquired basic drafting skills are able to read and interpret technical drawings as well as drafting equipment to communicate ideas graphically. The students gain insights in- to the manufacturing trades and in post- high school programs in drafting and engineering. l took drafting because l'm interested in the building trades and a career in architecture. l've found that the class has taught proper design and draf- ting techniques, says Mai-Trang Nguyen. Advanced engineering and ar- chitectual students learn about word frame structures and computer applica- tion. Clief Castleton, an advanced engineering student adds, l've learned about the capabilities of computer aided drafting through the hands-on' ex- periences in the CAD program. Greg Piazza performs a safety check. Glenn Oliver learns about technical equipment for maintenance. John Chamberlain and Bill Giwoft work together on an auto project. Alex Marquis and Rob Ripley make a serious and diligent effort in drafting class. Charles Park relaxes and enjoys his drawings. Mr. Hilts is always willing to help his students. 125
