The football game between the All-Stars and the A9's was held at Lafayette, during 5 and 6 periods on November 23, 1939. The game was won by the A9's, the score 11+ to 6. A9-All-Star Football Competition Year : 1-P6 LV? 7-+8 L99 A9 : 6 8 6 lib B9 : 13 6 6 6 Any well planned athletic program, whether noon or after school competition, or a special event, must have a staff be- hind the scenes to help things run smoothly. All this credit can be given to the student officials, who served faithfully during the east semester. qgrim in uri iiiwfi L V'h au' 'i Li 4 an 'nv The Sentinel class, assisted by the Junior journalism class and Mr. Lewis' Graphic Arts boys, had fun and work this semester nublishing five issues of the school newspaper, the Lafayette SENTINEL. The issues were: Ha1lowe'en Number, Thanksgiving Issue, Christmas Number, Winter Graduation Issue, and the Spring Orientation Number. Guided by Mr. Sufrin and Mr. Lewis, of Journalism and Printing, respectively, the members of the classes were well organized and functioned in their jobs smoothly. The staff was as follows: Editor, Thomas Sugimoto: Assistant and Fear- ture Editor, Alibe Peak: Business Manager, Lilly Lum: Chief Typist, Diane Lee: Gossip Editor, Mamie Russell: Art Editor, Molly Chung: Jokes Editor, Leon Chan: Girls' Sports, Olive Chung: Boys' Sports, Thomas Kemp: and Printing Foreman, Hiroshi Takaki. 27

l' ... If 4' .lv if PARENT-TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION ' The P. T. A. at Lafayette, started back in 1917, was one of first in the city to beorganized. In 1948 it was reorganized, and, it is now one of the top PTA's in the city. The P. T. A. organization is a very good thing to have. In this way the teachers can discuss how good their children are getting along in school. Of course a P. T. A. serves a lot of other purposes. Thie year the membership reached a grand total of N43 members. The P- T--L Save Certificates for membershins this last camnaizn. Frank Sabbath got a certificate fo1 turning in the most members for the boys. He turned in a grand total of 15. This boy is in homeroom 205 A. Delia Moreno who turned in 8 members, got a certificate, too. She is in homeroom 120. The P- T- A- Presented some fine picnic benches for our Bar-B-Q, court recently. The officers are Mrs. Mable V. Gray, President: Mrs. Insta Almo, Vice President: Mrs. Helen Zamora, Program Chairman: Mrs. Julia Collins, Mrs. Nessie Solomon, Recording Secretary: and Treasurer.
