CLASS HISTORY We, the senior class of '5lu, got underway on September 6, 1950 we began our last year under the supervision of Miss Jump To start off with a nbnng,N Dwight Reed took over as president, as isted by Dicl Arnold Roger Kelley and Ron Schafer were elected secretary and treasurer respectively. Jean Chidester was chosen to represent our class on the student council, and Janice Carey was elected reporter Along with trying toget adjusted to school again, after three months'vacation, we also received word that Joe Wines was coming on September 12 to take our senior pictures, The officers of the G A A were all from the senior class this vear They wereas follows, Marcia Connor, presi dent, Janlce Carey, vice president, Betsy Kohli, secretary, Jean Chidester, as istant secretary, and Roberta Hawk, trea surer All senior girls qualified, under the point system, to receive letters On October 16, our first class party was held in the school gym Everyone enjoyed themselves and no one went home hungry This year for the first tlme in the schoo1's history, night before the homecoming game Although this was some thlng new, the seniors hope it w1ll be continued through out the following years Janice Carey was elected homecoming queen and Jean Chidester was chosen as senior princess. We planned a very impresslve ceremony for the day's activities Galen Stoodt and Jim Laibe were captain and co captain for the even1ng's game, which was played with Pandora we were very fortunate in obtaining the use of a Buick convertible, owned by Albert O'Rourke After the game there was a dance sponsered by the Varsity L The following senior girls served as najorettes this school year Roberta Hawk, Diane McKinney, Barbara McNett, and Jeannine Stoodt Roberta Hawk and Marcia Connor were cheerleaders In spite of the ice and the bitter cold weather, the senior class decided to go Christmas caroling. To cover territory fast, we used a wagon attached to Jim Vermillion's truck ve sang at the County Home and many other places When we could stand no more of the cold we s t o p p e d at McNett's and ate barbeques, drank hot chocolate, and watched television U 0 1 s c . . On Saturday, Feb uary 10 195' rven seniors took the state schola sh n t t lb y N edith Binkley Janice Carey, Roger Kelley, Betsy ohl IW Laibe, JG k Pzgh, and Ron Schafer Roger Kelley had the honor of obtalnlrg fifth place in the county and honorable nention in the state Several senlor boy were honorel at the annual Athletic Banqueton March 1 Five enlors eceived ehevrons for foot balland two were given chevronsfor their basketball letters The gridmen were hi e Chile , Bill Jame , Jim Laibe, Danny Machir and Galen Stoodt the cagers Dwight Reed and Galen Stoodt Galen and Dwlght each gave a fine speech and Danny Machir very capatl, acted as master of ceremonies The whole affair was stapedby the enior girls, under the direc tion of Coaches Barnes and PPDHOIWOOG, and with Irs Cath erine Snider's assl tance in the kitchen a journallsm club under the leader nip of I Mosher and Miss Jump The honorary members are Meredith Blnkley, Donna Bradshaw, Janice Carey, Jean Chidester, Ro,er Kelley, Betsy Kohli, Alberta Lee, Diane MvKinney, Jack Pugh, Dwight Reed, Ronald Schafer, and Barbara Shecherd Trey also received pins for theix service The name of the senior clas clay this year was, 'Who s Batty Now,' which was directed by Mr Packer, and staged May ll, 1951 Since tha was our flnal tribute to our dear high school, everyone did the b st he oossibly could The cast included Allen Brown, Janice Carey, Jean Chidester, Bill James, Danny N chir, Diane IcYinney, Jack Pugh, Dwight Reed, Joan Sandy, Barbara Shepherd, Norman Shutt, and Betty Vermillion The Honor Society Banquet was held on May 2, at the LaFayette High School There were seven fromour class chosen They were Meredith Binllew, Janice Carey, Jean Cridester, Roger Kelley, Bets, Kohli, T ck Pugh, and Ron Schafer Roger Kelley was namedas valedictorian, and Ron Schafer as salute torian On May 20, our Baccalaureate services were held, and Com encement on May 21. The Rev T, A. Ballinger, pastor of the LaFayette Methodist Church, gave the Baccalaureate sermon Mr F Elmer Marshall, lecturer and radio writer from Indianapolis, Indiana, wa the Commencement sneaker Music for these occasions was furnl hed by members of the graduating class 1 1 - r , .l, S3 .A .'
