For the first time, Lafayette entered instrumental num- bers at the district eisteddfod at Bowling Green. Laura Koogler entered a trumpet solo and Joseph Sopher a snare drum solo, Each year, letters are presented to those seniors who have spent one year in band or orchestra, and ohevrons for additional years. This year's awards were made to 'Calvin Early, ,Esthhm-Guthrie, Lela Joseph, Dick Kersker, Joan Landes, Cledlth long, Phyllis Lutzn Daniel Reed, Betty Rundlo, Mary Sterling, and Nolan Younkman. BOYS' GLEE Fifty-nine boys entered the competition for the final thirty of Boys'GleeClub. The following officers were elec- ted: President, Bill Hallg Vice President, Lloyd Littlcrg Secretary, Jim Bassett, Treasurer, Nolan Younkmang Reporter, Calvin Earlyy and Librarians, Dick Kersker and Jim Smith. Joan Boyd was the accompanist. A number of the boys are members of the Boys' Octette organization, previously known as Boys' Quartette. These boys entered the preliminary elsteddfod, April 2, The win- ning octette consisted of Dick Smith, Dick Wh1tmore,Jdm1Bas- sett, Kenneth Schick, Paul Arthur, Calvin Early, Lloyd Litt- ler, and Nolan Younkman. At the couhty eistcddfod, this oc- tette rated first. The following day, an octette composed of Dick Smith, Dick Whitmore, Jim Bassett, Kenneth Schick, Paul Arthur, Danny Reed, Lloyd L1ttler,,and Nolan Younkman entered the district contest where they again secured a first, entitling them to enter the state contest. The boys winningsolosin the e1steddfodwereJlm Bassett firstplace in tenor, Calvin Early, second place in baritoneg and Lloyd Littler, second place in bass solo. Dick Smith, Calvin Early, and Danny Reed entered solos in the district contest. - - ' The goal toward which Boys' GlceworkedgUJ.year was the winning of a blue ribbon in the county eisteddfod. Thanks to our director, Mr. Yoakam, this goal was reached. O
