CLASS HISTORY On a windy September day in the fall of 1945, sixty smiling boys and girls walked into the freshman homeroom of LaFayette-Jackson High School. Within a few days we elected officers. The results were: President, James Bassettg Vice- President, James Thomasg Secretary, Richard Kerskerg Treas- urer, Viola Gauseg Student' Council Representative, Betty Rundio. Then came the great day when the freshman initita- tion took place. You should have seen all those smiling freshmen with long skirts and their sweaters on backwards, with a boot on one foot and a shoe on the other, carrying a great big book. In the evening we looked out of the music room and saw a long string of other boys and girls with pad- dles. What else was there to do but go through that line and get it over with. Ve did. But oh, we had a very funny feeling behind us for a little while! The heat just rolled. We were sorry to have the following withdraw: Margaret Wurm, James Fedele, Merle Frick, Reva Jackson, Donna Wilkins, Carl Holt, and Dick Brown. But our sad hearts became glad when Mertis Hackworth walked in and said, HI would like to be one of you.n Of course, we accepted her gladly. We began our sophomore year by electing' officers. The officers were: President, Bill Hallg Vice-President, Danny Reedg Secretary, James Eassettg Treasurer, Joan Landes, Stu- dent Council Representative, Kenneth Bowyer. The following boys and girls withdrew: Bill Augsburger, Dorothy Bassitt, Alice Smith, Dorothy Sterling, Donald Barnes, James Thomas, Mary Sterling, Glenn Howbert, Betty Sheets, and Bill Strahm. Ne gained Nadine Condon and Norman Bixel. A . When school opened in the fall of 1945, we had an en- rollment of forty-three students. We elected our officers for the year. They were: President, Bill Hallg V1celPres-- dent,James Bassettg Secretary, Cletus Gerigg Treasurer, Danny Reedg Student Council Representative, Letty Lou North, Reporter, Waneta Ransbottom. Among the boys and girls we lost this year were: Frank Lewis, Ralph May, Marion Rexroth, Cletus Gerig, Juanita Ruebush, Roberta Skelly, Joyce Petro- polus, Ruth Binkley, and Kenneth Bowyer. Those gained were: Jean Miller, Gladys Aldrich, and Victor Breneman. On April 25, we gave our play nHillbilly Courtship.H Ne had a lot of fun in producing it with the help of Myrton Packer. May ll, was chosen as the date for the Junior-Senior Banquet. In order to raise money for this great event we sponsored three skating parties, a Community Supper, Farm Bureau Banquet, sold pencils, and we also sold pop at basketball games. Everyone had a good time. Our.sen1or year was the ,most outstanding of them all. We had been looking forwardto thisyear sincewe werefreshmen.

Now we consider ourselves forty-two superior upperclassmen. Ve elected our officers. The results were:'Presldent, Bill Hall, Vice-President, James Bassett, Secretary, BettyRundiog Student Council Representative, Nolan Ybunkmang Reporter, Betty North. We elected our annual staff and they worked enthusiastically to produce it. nJumplng Jewelsu was the title of our play which was given March 28. Selecting the lnvitatlonsand the name cardswcre other perplexing problems. This year we had the great pleasure of being the honored guests of the Junior-Senior Banquet which was held May 5. Baccalaureate was held May ll, and Commencement, May 15. We had our fraduatlon pictures taken, October 25 and received them before Christmas. Everyone was well-pleased with them. Ten seniors had the privilege of attending the Honor Society Banquet this year. They are: James Basectt,' Calvin Early, Bill Hall, Joan Landes, Phyllis Lutz, Jean' Miller, 'Betty North, Veneta Ransbottom, Kenneth Schick, and NolanYbunkman. Those who withdrew this year are: Nadine Condon and Doris Goodwin. Those of our class who attended school atIaFayette the full twelve years were: Jackson pupils--ElizabethFisher, Betty Fleming, Esther Guthrie, Charlene Hall, Bill Hall, Cledith Long, Phyllis lutz, Theodore McCague, Richard Phil- lips, Janeta nansbottom, Kenneth Schick, Edward Stoodt,Nolan Xbunkman.
