' She was a member of the mixed choir, loved home economics, attended the Junior- Senior Ban uet in April of 1952, and was very active in all outdoor sports. She was a member of the Savannah Avenue Baptist Church and sang in the choir. We will always remember this bright eyed, peppy, red headed girl who was always ready to help when ever she could. 'For thou hast delivered my soul from death: Wilt 'not thou deliver my feet from fallin , that I may walk before God in the Eght of living? Psalms! 56-13 IN MEMORIAM To Rodger Loran Strong who died during his Freshman year at the age of fourteen. Green be the turf above, Friend of my better days! These are a few of the questions you would hear if, sometime during the year, you should come to Room 215. The publication of the Lafayette yearbook is not an easy task by any means, but every year the journalism class undertakes this project and succeeds. This year with the capable and efficient work of our Oak staff, the yearbook has again been published! Two people combined their talents, planned the yearbook and --1 did all the art work. They are our Editor, Margaret Loy, and Art Editor, Elmer McKnight. All the written copy was submitted by the Literary Editor, Phyllis Branson and her assistants. It takes much hard work and effort by every individual worker on the staff to make this publication possible. Miss Mildred Bringman has again given much time and under- PCB I-Oy standing to the staff and their project. fnwn.. Kit ! The journalism class under the patient guidance of Miss Mildred Bringman has successfully finished another year in the publication of the Lafayette Light. This could only be accomplished by the hard work done by everyone on the Light Staff. Each doing his duty, the soliciting, reporting, typing, the making of the dummies, copy and proof reading, circulation, and financing, were done with accuracy, dexterity, and faithfulness. As the curtain opened, it was Christmas Eve and King Arthur fDan Evansj entered the Hall of Camelot, sat down and read a short time, and fell asleep. While in slumber he dreamed of the Christ Child, His mother, Mary QDixie Dunlapj and His father, joseph qjon Winemillerj surrounded by angels fBetty Carroll, Phyllis Lopez, Wanda Russel, Carol Beason, and Sharon Bowlinj. Two shepherds QDick Stephen and Norman Stidellj appeared and offered their humble gifts. Upon their leave, three Magi from the East 1Fred Adams, john Lau, and Bill Yarnellj arrived with their lavish gifts and as the last of the Magi presented his offer- ing, a large cup, two angels QLavon Carter and Ruth Elaine johnstonj took it from him and one said that it should be known as the 'Holy Grail , the cup Christ would drink from at the Last Supper. After the Magi passed from without the hall, King Arthur awakened and was told by the angels that he would never again see the 'Holy Grail' or hear the heavenly music until he found the noblest gift life could bestow. Upon instructions from the King, the page fRonald Chastainy summoned the knights, Sir Gareth 1Fon-est l-loffj, Sir Tristram QBill Jarrettj, Sir Percival fR0gEI Wakej, and Sir Modred QElmer McKnigh0. Launcelot left Galahad at the altar to perform his vigil. Modred saw Galahad kneeling at the altar and intended to kill him. He drew his swordp but as he moved toward the kneeling Galahad, the young knight made the sign of the cross. Upon seeing this, Modred de- cided to tempt him instead. U Galahad the Key of Brotherly Love and the Damsel of Purity placed the Cross of Consecration on Galahad's cape as a symbol of Knightliness. Again it was Christmas Eve. The Knights returned and each in turn brought his gift and laid it before the altar, hoping it would be the perfect glftg but the vision did not appear until Launcelot brought in Galahad. Then the hall was filled with heavenly music and a brilliant light shown and into their presence came a group of angels bearing the 'Holy Grail . Galahad sat in the Seige Perilous, which was the throne reserved for the perfect knight. The angels passed from Camelot with the Grail held high between them. 'From the Seige Perilous Galahad rose and followed them, and after them, at a little distance, went Launcelot and the other knights of Arthur. The King, himself, stood motionless before his throne and the voice of Galahad floated black. Publicity-Miss Bringmang Miss Rightmireg and Journalism De- partment. This year, seventeen outstanding students met the requirements of obtaining an average of 3.2 in academic subjects. After receiving their pins, all members recited this pledge: I do here pledge that I will faithfully and loy- ally uphold the standards of the Lampion Society of Lafayette High School, that I will never permit anyone, not a member of this Society, to wear my Society ping and that I will strive in every way to encourage my fellow students-both Seniors and underclassmen-to make the ideals of this Society the ideals of our school. On the pin is a lamp, signifying the search for truth. The open book, signifies the open mind. ' -Seniafals' The Greeks had a word for it but none more lovely than the memories which will linger long in the hearts of all who attended the Junior-Senior banquet at the Robidoux this year. If we could but make a permanent record of the loveliness of the goddesses and the stalwart manliness of the gods who graced the regions of earth for those brief moments, but being mortals we cannot sing so wildly well this melody. Being in the garden of lovely flowers we, the Greeks, could see the past and part of the future unrolled before our eyes as we experienced the voices of great orators. Having glimpsed into this past we saw a fair vision of our lives unfold. Glancing into the future our tears ran as a small stream which had much new and larger heights to reach. The Olympic memory must surely always remain bringing a touch of joy and a flash of pain. joy to be a part of so much majesty. Pain to know it will never be quite the same.
