ln 1951, the little 8th graders, now grown up, entered these halls, knowing their way around very well by now and sobering at the thought of leaving so very soon. New faces were seen in our administrative department this fall and we soon all became acquainted and great friends. Our sponsors were: Misses Winifred Gallagher, Marilyn Max- well, and Helen McMachen. The year got off to a flashing start with the election of Dick jordan to the office of Student Body President. Maxine Worley was elected to join Donna as the two senior cheerleaders. Claudette Anderson served as maid of honor to the football queen with Bonnie Barth and Meredith Long acting as attendants. Our senior class set an all time high for Oak sales and should be congratulated. Patt Parr and Nelda Hinton served as editors of the Oak and Light' respectively. Patt Parr was elected by the three R.O.T.C. companies to be Sponsor Colonel with Claudette Anderson acting as Lt. Colonel and Bonnie Barth as Captain. They appeared in the R.O.T.C. military ball grand march and the R.O.T.C. Revue. Lynn Stokes attained the high position of Colonel in the R.O.T.C. and Warren Laukemper became Lt. Colonel. Maxine Worley won the honor of being basketball queen accompanied by Carol I. Schiltz as maid of honor and joan Pettijohn and Donna Adams as attendants. The year was one short busy fleeting moment and before long we attended the jr.-Sr. Banquet and were soon attending glorious Baccalaureate and at last ---- Commencement!! We were now on the threshold of life and as we stand in the doorway we look back and then forward. We are eager to take our places in life for which Lafayette has fitted us. For some of us, school is over-- for others there will be college, jobs, and the formations of new homes, or perhaps Careers in the armed services. But we know, that thoughrour eyes are turned toward the future, we shall always carry in our hearts and never forget these grand and glorious days spent in the halls of dear old L.H.S. Dedicated to the Senior Class of 1952 HEARTS OF OAK Come cheer up my lads, 'tis to glory we steer, To add something new to this wonderful yearg To honour we call you, not press you like slaves, . s For who are so free as the sons of the waves? , We ne'er meet our foes but we wish them to stay, They ne'er meet us but they wish us away, lf they run, then we follow, and drive them ashore, . For if they won't fight us, we cannot do more. Hearts of Oak are our ships, Hearts of Oak are our men We always are read , Steady, boys, steadiy, We'll fight and We'll conquer again and again.
