Swim 61644 041' When we entered Lafayette as bewildered little eighth graders in the autumn of 1947, we little realized the parts we were to assume as the days flew by and how important the halls and rooms of L.H.S. were to become to us in the next five years. By May, we knew our way around fairly well and were looking forward to returning as freshmen. As freshmen we took part in many activities. We had really arrived! Arlene Kunzelmann, Shirley White, Car- mellia Leonard, and Audrey Midyett were invited into the Colleens. Merrill Shaw was elected by our class to serve as fresh- man cheerleader. Donna Adams, was the freshmen class candidate for relay queen. The highlight of the year was the Freshmen Picnic held at Krug Park. We were really on our way now! The Fall of 1949 found us in senior high taking part in many new activities. We were allowed to attend senior high assemblies and to elect representatives to the Student Senate. Many members of our class attended for the first time, the two outstanding military functions of the year, the R.O. T.C. banquet and ball. Patt Parr 8: jack Wynne took part in the first two all- school plays. Shirley Clark went to Jefferson City on the Sophomore Pilgrimage . Harlene McDaniel and Patt Parr were asked into the Colleens. We felt very wise and all powerful by the end of our Sophomore year. We had only two more to go! 1950 found the 8th grade class of '48 well on their way in the big events happening around school. The highlight of this year was the jr-Sr. banquet at the Hotel Robidoux made possible by the hard work of the Ir. crew and the selling of tickets for the drama- tics class play Tish . Donna Adams was elected by our class to serve as cheer- leader. Shirley White was attendant to Miss Shamrock on Noyes Field. Bonnie Barth and Claudette Anderson ser- ved as attendants to the basketball queen. One of the saddest events of the year was the send-off by the entire faculty and student body of our beloved Mr. Murphy, retiring on Doc Murphy Day. Carol lean Schiltz was presented for high scholarship the Murphy junior Scholastic Award . We were now looking forward to that most glorious of all --our senior year!
