LAMPION SOCIETY The main feature of the Class of '48 is the induction of the thirteen students into the Lampion Society on April 8, 1948. Lampion is taken from the Greek word lamplin, which means to shine forth, or give light. In order to become a member of the Lampion Society, which was originated in 1941, a senior must be in the upper 10 per cent of his graduating class. This year the average grade had to be 3.17 or above. This is the highest honor a student can receive at Lafayetteg therefore, all of the students strive to reach this goal in their four years of high school. The assembly program, which was presented by the faculty, consisted of: Page Ten Purpose of the Lampion Society ........................,... ,..... The stage but echoes back the public voice STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT Richard Heath, who was elected to the presi- dency of the Lafayette High School student body last May, will be remembered by the students as one of the most fun-loving and popular student presi- dents Lafayette has ever had. 'A' STUDENT SENATE Here is the governing body of Lafayette High School. Although it is a unicameral organization, its H members are elected in the same manner as the , members of Congress. Senators are chosen by mem- bers of the sophomore, junior and senior classes. The sophomore class chooses four, the junior class six, and the senior class eight. Representatives are chosen by third period classrooms. Each third period class chooses one representative to attend the meetings of the Senate and to bring reports back to the class. The student Senate of 1947-1948 was a very successful group, thanks to the public-spirited attitude of its members and to the Wise guidance of its sponsor, Mr. Clifford V. Howard.
