Treasurer 1 , The boys of the class of I935, tired of the assertion that girls are better students, and determined to prove the fallacy of said statement, started at the beginning of their high school careers to pile up credits, both in activities and scholarship, with the result that for the first time in the history of the Lafay- ette National Honor Society, the number of boys elected to membership equals that of the number of girls. lt is natural that competition for membership in the organization should be especially keen, for election to this society is the highest honor which the school has the power to bestow. lt is not a recognition of special ability or outstanding, skilliinone line of endeavor only. but it. covers a much broader field marked by the four outstanding characteristics of ideal citizenship- ScholarshipgLeadership, Service and Character. Eligibility to membership requires that a student shall be in the upper third of his class in scholarship, that his character shall be above question, that he shall possess the initiative and personality of a leader, and that he shall have rendered outstanding service to the school in its various activities. Members to which each school is entitled are limited to fifteen per cent of the graduating class. The faculty was limited to a choice of fourteen members, bringing the total membership of the Lafayette Chapter up to ll2 members. Page Twf-nty-three
