History of Class of' 1920 tl NYItlTl'l the history of this year's Senior Class is to write the his- tory ol' lhe school. for the class of 1920 has had the unique ex- perience of being the highest class of the school throughout the three years ot' its existence. NVhile proud of this honor, it has borne a great responsibility, and has been obliged to forego the pleasure of class organization and close comradeship until the present year, and even then it was not until the final months that it could give its time strictly to Senior activities. The Freslnnan year was spent at the Hobidoux School, asf the build- ing was not yet ready for occupation when the eighth grade work was eonipleled. NVhile Freshmen at the ltobidoux the members entered into all the school activities and soon TJCCLIIUC a vital part of the class life. They we1'e leaders in the Literary Societies, as well as in class recitation, they assisted in the school theatrical performances and received much coiuulendation. This prepared them for the work they luust do when, as Sophomores, they became the leading class at the new 'Lafayette High School. On taking up their life in the beautiful new building, they felt their responsibility, and realized that on them depended the fllt1ll'C of a great school. They must establish p1'ecedcnces, which must have underlying, high ideals. They must take the lead in organizing literary societies, and clubs for carrying on war activities, such as thrift stamp collection, and lted Cross work. During the first year a piano was purchased and the money raised for the purchase of one set of scenery and a curtain for the auditorium stage. The money for these was, for the most part, the proceeds of the Lafayette Jazz, given by the school with the Seniors as leaders. This Jazz, or Carnival, was a great success, and was highly commended by the patrons of the school. Thus ended the Sophomore ve-ir 4. XVhen the class returned as Juniors, the following fall, they came back with renewed determination to place the Lafayette School among the others of thc city. They continued their share of the basket ball team, joined the li, O. T. C., for which they furnished the leading of- ficers. All went well until the flu got the better part of the people of the St. Joseph schools, and fo1'ccd a long vacation upon them. On return to school, however, lessons were soon made up, and time was found to give the Slay Festival. ln this, as before, the Junior Class figured in the leading parts. one of these members being the May Queen. For the first tina- in its historv. this year, the class found it feasible to form a perma- nent organization. They gave an assembly program and enjoyed a pnnie, which was in every respect a success.
