A ff ess 1 - . xi, , , of .sg-lgeyfe -xi l 6,13 S J I I f lx' ,1 1 ,- 1 Q uGooclhye, Lafayette How we lovedl thy halls! For many days thy walls Have sheltered us from wintry blasts, Then came Spring, In her robes of green, So gentle, so alluring. When the south wind floated to us, Ladened with the perfumes of flowers And the songs of the birds, A V Our thoughts would wander to the green hills tar away And we longed to be free. But now the parting has come We are loather to go, And in our hearts we cherish memories Which we shall never forget. Goodbye, Lafayette. To thee, oh English Class, Goodbye! Enchantment lingered in thy hour, When Miss Wirth's voice rose with soft cadence, Wafting us away into the enchanted past, Where we dwelt with John Keats on that Roman hill Writing his ode to the Nightingale, Or we floated with Shelley On his billowy clouds of white And loved the beautiful words That fell from his pen, Or, inspired by other poets, centuries old, Dreamed vain, foolish dreams, That we might create works of our brains Which would live on and on But the words would not comeg The gift we did not possess. Who can tell perhaps in the dim future, Some great book may be written Or even a poem created yet, That was originated in the English Class of Lafayette And to the Physics Class: Thy problems have flirted Teasingly with our brains, And ah, thy Laws of Gravity, How they have weighted our minds And even yet a mystery remains! Miss Long, with patience untiring, Strength and knowledge to inspire, was ever striving, We cannot forget you, But we must say, Adieu. Civics and Social Problems, Goodbye to thee. Where our tongues waxed eloquent And we poured forth our thoughts in argument, While our hands waved wildly and pawed the air For a chance our views to air. Where John Koontz's feet rested under the seat ahead Or were left in the aisle And over which we often stumbled And raised Miss Wilson's ire By our battles, fought and won, We freed the world of tyranny, We poured forth our views with many words And'even layed our politics bare Until recalled to earth by the tinklc of a bell. To Miss Wilson, to our classmates, Farewell. And Chemistry, to you, XVe say, Adieu. Nevermore shall we experiment And gaze in often wonderment At thy varied mysteries Thy horrid sulphur gas detested Never more by us be molested No more acid making X, '1 xx enty
